Anyone See The Aviator?

Saw it tonight -Christmas night. It was pretty good, the airplanes looked cheesy (you could easily tell they were computer generated) and they went a bit too far with the obsessive compulsive(?) thing as far as Howard goes, but overall a good movie. A bonus was that the all the chicks he hooked up with (except for the girl that played Kate Hepburn) were hot. Anyone else go to see it???

You hit it on the head with the girls. Definately gave it a hollywood touch to his life, but a decent movie overall.

I saw it, and I thought it was fantastic.

Alec Baldwin stole the show as Juan Trippe!!!

Are there a lot of references to TWA in the film?

Storyline and everything else look good for that movie, except for the fact that they chose that little turd to play Hughes.

I just saw it and I thought that it was excellent. I have to agree that all of the girls in the movie just added to it.

I too saw it and loved it.

One question: what was the plane he broke the speed record in (and then ran out of gas and crashed)? I'm sure they had mentioned it, and I just missed it.
Would love to fly in that plane....of course never gonna happen!  Laugh out loud
Cheers -

His racer was called the H-1. It sure was a shiny piece of aluminum that I would have loved to get my hands on. I wonder if it was rebuilt after his landing.

If I'm not mistaken, a replica of that Hughes aircraft recently crashed on its way home from the Oshkosh airshow one or two years ago. Pilot didn't survive. Sad

I haven't gotten around to seeing the movie yet, but from what I've heard, there's not as much aviation stuff in it as I had expected.

I believe that the H-1 is in the Smithsonian.

I'll have to look for it in the Air & Space Museum the next time I am up in D.C. Judging by the crash photos of the H-1, the damage didn't look too bad. A new prop, and some polish would probably take care of most of it.

Regarding TWA: the movie shows the ramp full of TWA Connies. Also, TWA and Hughes are the focus of a CAB hearing, in the movie.

I saw it on Boxing Day and must say that it was good, if not brilliant, but rather long.

It ran kinda long... nearly three hours.

Too long for a movie that had no climax, and over-played the whole insanity thing.

I did like the story... and that plane crash was sweet!

If you really want to do it, you will find a way; if you don't, you'll make excuses.

The movie was good, but the scene where he locked himself up naked in that room and peed in the bottles was "disturbing". Was Hughes really that messed up?

"Was Hughes really that messed up?"

The guy locked himself up out of site the last few years of his life. He did have issues.
