Hi there,

Just after some opinions on this vehicle as I shall be spending a lot of time with one in the not so distant future.

I hear they label it as the "Luxury Sedan". Does it live up to its name? Anything you can tell me from an owners point of view would be great.

Look forward to some comments.

Regards,

Hey,

I rented one for a few days last year. I liked it, it was cushy and plush when driven at a moderate pace, yet when driven quickly it had great road handling capabilities at a speed that I deemed worthy of flying off the road and into the trees of Seattle, with or without the stability control kicking in. Turn-in into the corners was slower than I liked, not just the steering ratio itself being 'slow' but the lazy way the front of the car reacted to my steering input. I like my cars front end to to be extremely sensitive in yaw as I add a steering input, but compliant to the undulations of the road without upsetting the attitude of the vehicle in pitch or yaw.

One thing I REALLY like about the C240 was the refrigerated center compartment under the armrest, now that is SWEET! Kept my 'soda' cool...

Its kind of anemic on power--the C320 is a better drive--but more $$ and supposedly the C230 is more fun to drive than the C240. If you want it in stickshift I say go for the C230--its more fun to drive than the 240. Otherwise, while I'm not a big fan of the C-Class save for the C32 and C55 it is a decent luxury car--smallish but decent.

Ooooooh. I have a C-240. I am so in love with my car that when it's lease is up in a few months there will be a tearful good-bye. Unfortunately I will have to step down car wise. Probably a Honda Accord since my husband is about to take a flight instructing job (BIG cut in pay).
I have never vared much about a car until I met this one. It's black with the tan interior. Its a 2002 model. I admit it is a bit sluggish but I over look that  Big grin Anytime there is a problem, this car tells you. I then simply press the little picture of a wrench and low and behold, I am immediately talking to somebody that knows about every little thing on my car. Even common questions. I LOVE it, love it, love it, love it. I swear to you as soon as possible I am moving back into a Mercedes. I think my heart might truly break having to return this car.  Sad

ScottysAir... I mean AAplat,

Besides the obvious, that you just stated, what else from your experience of owning or driving a C240 makes you believe it is so good?

Thanks.

Well the way it handles and rides the curvs and also the quick acceleration are positives. Also the spaciousness and comfortability even though it is smaller than most cars and is a lot less expensive. As a matter of fact it even has more room then the short wheelbased Jaguar,or at least it seems that way. Also Mercedes is a great car company so all in all...it is a great car....

Is this something you read somewhere or are you speaking from experience? According to your profile you are not old enough to drive.

Boy do I wish I was old enough to drive...but anyways a friend of our family and an old neighbor had the car and often took me through the Canyon in it to the Ocean....it was a nice ride.....performed amazingly for what I thought. I thought that it would be slow and lagging but it had a lot of zap!!

I would like to trade my trusty Sedona for a C240 but I think that the salesperson would break a rib or two laughing over the whole thing.

I wonder if it is true that in some areas you can get the ultra special, mega double secret elite "ILS" package (free DSC and a map to tell apart I-35 from I-45)

Yes I would like one and I have yet to see one in the Doctors lot.

Miss Scarlet,

The blue panzermobile was rented from a cool brother at Hertz who suggested the upgrade for $10 more than the $24.99 Focus that I originally reserved. I only had one question, 'unlimited mileage?'. The answer was 'yes', and I jumped at it. Put 400 miles on it in 3 days! Legroom in the back was good, more so than a 3 series.

The Mercedes C240 (the entire C line) tends to be rather soft. At auctions they generally run about 4,000 back of book. The C240 also tends to be rather under powered. If you are looking to spend 35-$40K on a car, the BMW 3 series is a much better bet, or the Lexus IS or ES line. Heck if you hand find a great deal on a Lexus GS, that is what I would do!

Basically--the C class is for folks that really like the styling--because it has never one a comparo between the competition, the 240 is somewhat redundant now that the sportier 230 is out. I say wait a bit for the new 3 series. The G35 is the best buy in the class--me personally I'd probably go with the upcoming Mazdaspeed 6 if I was searching for a small sedan in that price range.

Why bother. For quite a bit less money (at least here in the USA) you can get an Acura TSX (essentially the European Honda Accord with more luxury items and a 200 bhp (SAE) engine) that drives almost as well, gets pretty decent fuel efficiency, and of course you get the excellent Honda reliability.  Big thumbs up
