An article in todays LA Times got me to thinking......what are the best cities in the world to go if you are looking to get some sex-whether it's from a hooker, a loose local, drunk tourist, or all of the above? I know that lots of couples travel together. But when you're a single guy (or group of them), well....erections know no seasons or geographical boundaries......and especially when sampling the local culture....the need tends to arise a little more frequently.
Based on the article, here are my top three guesses, which make sense. Please be assured that I have no first hand experience with hookers, although in all honesty, the Tijuana thing did make me scratch my head and wonder. I know what you're thinking....but Hey...that's what condoms are for, right? And even without one, statistically, your chances of picking up something that you can't put back down are still pretty remote for a one-time encounter.
1. Tijuana. In Mexico, particularly in the town just south of the Border, pretty much anything goes. The businesses prefer US currency. The booze flows freely. And the local population is overall very poor. Throw in its ease of access for horny American men, aged 18-95 with even a few bucks to spend, and it makes for a ripe feeding ground for ill repute. I guess if you are into hot tanned skin, long brown black hair Latin women, this IS your place. (Hmmm...I ought to look into this sometime. I LOVE Spanish women, and TJ is only a three hour drive )
2. Amsterdam. Everything I've heard about this Dutch city leads me to believe that it's probably the most liberal in the world. Not liberal in the political sense per se, but the fact that as long as you behave yourself, you can do pretty much anything. You can get stoned out of your gourd. It's legal. And if you like tall, busty, blonde Euro chicks, well prostitution is fully sanctioned and fully regulated here. You've all heard about "window shopping in Amsterdam"? You aren't looking at jewelry or fur coats......
3. Bangkok. I think the name pretty much says it all. This is the city I've heard least about, but I've heard from numerous places that pretty much the same elements that exist in Tijuana, Mexico exist here. I guess if you like those mysterious exotic Asian beauties with the (supposedly) tightest....*ahem*...lips in the world, you can have one for the night to do whatever you please for the hefty sum of about $50.
4. Las Vegas. This is a no brainer. Even though sex-for-money is technically illegal in Vegas, and can get you arrested if you are not careful, I don't have any reason to doubt that hustling si probably only third behind gambling and tourism as far as cash generating in Las Vegas. Have you been down The Strip? Have you seen HOW MANY "exotic dancer" and "massage" and "escort" business cards are laying everywhere for anyone to pick up and make a quick phone call? Hell they even advertise on the taxi cabs! Don't even TRY and tell me that at least some, if not most of these are simply fronts for the Real McCoy. It's all a matter of semantics. Sure you are PAYING for a lap dance or back rub, but there's nothing in the least illegal about *ahem* "consentual" sex-provided the "lap dance" included a $500 "gratuity".

Oh, I have been to Costa Rica...but it was to Playa Conchal in the Guanacaste Province, and to Liberia. The guide book, which I read with my wife, specifically said that the legal prostitutes had monthly checkups..... I remember wondering how one could be certain they were on a date with one who had been checked out yesterday or 130 acts ago.
Luckily I was with my wife and had no need for extra services....in fact my wife casually pointed out how much a prostitute would cost me when I pointed the section out in the guide book....Half of everything for the rest of my life.
I do remember that prostitution seemed to be legal in Panama as well. I was either too broke or too fearful of std's to participate, though.

You can spot the hookers in most of the casinos, as they're the ones wearing really nice clothes when compared to the rest of the people in the casino. With legal brothels being around an hour from Vegas, you can go there instead of taking the risk with an illegal one in Vegas (The women in the legal brothels have to be tested for the various STDs on a regular basis, so the risks of catching something from one of them is a lot less than from some girl from an agency or one you pick up at a casino bar).

Speaking of Bulgarians....I was going to suggest Bulgaria to you. I go there for the summer and I get plenty without resorting to prostitution. If you want a hooker though, it'll be like $25. They are advertised in the local paper as "escorts" and stuff like that. Some hookers even advertise themselves and give you their cell phone number. It's easy...and the girls are defiently worth it. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Don't know about prostitution here, but from what I hear, the locals are pretty loose. If you'd rather get you a piece the old-fashioned way rather than paying directly to the deed, I guess this would be a good place.
