However the answer isn't what's really important. The question is. :P And I have to agree with Thom@s here, that it's a bit scary that the movie might actually be not as good as the book was. Especially since DNA himself isn't around anymore directing the whole thing.
Though I found the trailer to be very cool and promising, too.
Douglas Adams was very involved with the movie up until his death. His website continues to link with the movie. If the movie was a tragic departure from the book I'm sure that the website would balk at promoting the film.
Afterall, Hitchhikers has as loal and rabid a following as Lord of the Rings does. I'm confident that the flimakers are aware that they have high expectations from that fan base.

you're probably right, the DNA fans who run douglasadams.com seem to be more or less aware of the status of the movie and what's it gonna look like, and so far it looks like they like it.
The cast also looks promising, with John Malkovich, Bill Nighy, Martin Freeman and Zooey Deschanel. And of course the fellow who's going to play Marvin the Paranoid Android.
