Is Ensure Available In The UK?

I have a question for those in the United Kingdom:

Is the nutritional supplement, Ensure, available in the United Kingdom?

At home in the USA, Ensure is widely available--in supermarkets, pharmacies, etc. But in the UK, I have yet to find anything like it.

In case you're not familiar with Ensure, it's a liquid nutritional supplement high in protein & calories and is lactose-free. It used to come in small cans, but now comes in small bottles to drink right out of. It comes in vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate flavours. Ensure is the brand name, and there are generic copies under names such as Equate in US stores.

I really need Ensure (or its equivalent) because I am very underweight (skeletally thin, in fact) and have been since birth. I tend to lose more weight than I gain, DESPITE the fact I eat much more than other people eat normally. I'm now living and studying in London (King's College London). I live in a Hall of Residence which has dining facilities, but I cannot get enough food like I could at home in the USA. At home, I have always eaten the equivalent of 3 or more people's portions in one meal--my appetite is so large and my metabolic demands so high. I need to supplement what (comparatively) little I get in the Hall dining room (they only serve a fixed amout to everyone).

For anyone in the United Kingdom: Could you help me find out if Ensure exists in the UK (specifically in or near London)? If Ensure is not available, is there some equivalent type of high-calorie/protein supplement (lactose-free) that is available here?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Plenty of similar products available in Britain.

Go to a sports shop or a chemist (pharmacy). Many supermarkets will also carry similar lines. I would think a sports retailer would be a good place to ask.

Another place would be a larger branch of Boots. They do several lines of special diet drinks of their own which may be cheaper to buy.

You can also ask at the General Practice Doctor you are registered with. Remember you are a student here and should not have to pay for a GP visit as you have leave to remain within the country.

Ensure is available here, we use it in the hospital. Ask for it in any pharmacy but i think its quite expensive. There are pl;enty of products that are similar like Enlive, Build up etc. But I know Ensure is widely available.

Thanks so much for your help in locating Ensure nutritional supplement in London.

Today, I went to my GP (at the NHS student health centre at King's College London) and she wrote me a prescription for Ensure, and I went to the Boots on the Strand and had them order it from my prescription.

Hopefully, Ensure will help me keep from losing so much weight despite my huge appetite! It has helped at home in the USA, so I trust it will help me here.
