Manchester - Not In Northern England!

Why do people keep referring to Manchester as being in the Northwest of England.
Are they geographically illiterate or something. Manchester is in Central England.
Northern England contains cities such as Carlisle, Newcastle, Scumder...err Sunderland  Big grin and not Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds.

There's my rant for the day over  Big grin

Anyway, have to agree with you. Manchester is in central UK. No doubt... Suppose they say north, because it lies north of London...  Confused

Alcregular, sorry  Big grin

Think of it this way...I live almost at the border...
it takes 2.5 hrs to drive to Manchester, 3.5 hrs to get to Birmingham, and 5-6 hours to get to London. That therefore puts Manchester in the Central bracket  Big grin
