We are off to a Bar Mitzvah this morning of a very old friend of mine.

Got any good ideas for a gift for a 13 year old?

The only safe answer is money. Kids can always use it.

The traditional number is a multiple of 18.

So $234 for a 13-year-old? $20 or $30 should be fine!

If it a very good friend of yours $100-$150 should be okay. Now if he nots a great friend and you dont know the kid much I say $50.

Savings bond(s).

With that 13 year old's name and address on the bond. Something to hold & remember for years and years.

I was going to say money as well. That way he can get what he wants.

Ya i would also say money. For a Bar Mitzvah i would say 75 is the minimum. But since its a good freind of yours 175-250 would be the normal range. Im not jewish but i belive that a bar Mitzvah is a very big event for the boy and its quite an expence for the family as well.

How about an actual gift...

I'd say get him a nice pen/pencil set. That always works.  Big grin

If you give them an amount of money make sure it is a multiple of 18 as 18 is life in hebrew and promotes life. I personally Think that you should give $54 or more. Being Bar-Mitzvah'd I recieved everything from $18 and above. Everygift is greatly appreciated.
