Ok with Jack McConnel trying some new measures to cut it out, especially in football, what else can be done? Especially as a Celtic man was stabbed in the face in Glasgow following the recent Celtic Vs Rangers match, which Rangers won 2-0 by the way  Big thumbs up

Some daft ideas could be:
Ban all Union Flags from Ibrox and Irish flags from Parkhead?
Ban Catholics and Protestants from going to watch Football?

Any other solution as it is indeed a major problem here in Scotland, which is a fact that I am ashamed of, being a Scotsman.

Ooooooooohh no, it's a 'major problem' in Glasgow! Fact. No such problem in Edinburgh, or anywhere else in Scotland.  Big grin

GKirk, it is not a 'major problem' in anywhere but Glasgow. Maybe there are minor incidents elsewhere, but it is Glasgow that has the biggest problem with sectarianism.

It happens in England too. Liverpool to be precise. Not to the extent that it happens in Glasgow but it's still there.

Manchester used to have similar religious tribalism linked to football as United was always the Catholic team and City the Protestant one. For many years United could only have a manager who was a practicing Catholic.

It not a Rangers problem its a celtic problem there filthy mob in site all the trouble when we win. Look at the last few games when Rangers win its them that cause all the trouble and its them that every day in life that they bring this up.

Jack McConnel is an ass BTW mmmmmm wonder what team he supports eh?

Its is a problem everywhere in Scotland most Fans support one or the other.

Scottish laddie Hearts and hibs hate each other as much as Rangers and them from the can giro do.

That lot shouldn't be aloud Irish flags at San giro what's that got to do way football in Scotland. If they like Ireland SO much why don't they go and stay there.

Sick of celtic and there bigotry LOYAL

P.S The route of all the problems is the brain washing that goes on in a certain religions special schools.

I grew up in a mixed religion family my mum's side was catholic and my dad's Protestants and I went to a normal school you really only start hating them when you are in the work place and you get the constant orange bastard crap and justifying the IRA and how its poor them that's discriminated against.

Its the brain washing they get in there schools I seen it happen to my cousin's.

Bmi330, that Loyal crap is just what Im on about.
Rangers and Celtic both have massive problems with this, and unless a ban occurs it will always be a problem. I hate the Rangers fans that take Union Flags into Ibrox and sing that Rule Britannia or God save the Queen crap...Rangers are a Scottish club, not a frigging English club or Northern Irish club

Rangers are a British team and the queen is the head of state of this country I seen her open the Scottish parliament. How many objects were flung by Rangers fans at celtic players and struck them last time they won zero how much major trouble zero.

What's happened the last few times Rangers have one Celtic fans throughout things and have struck the Rangers captain and basically there players and fans have taken a flaky as usual the manger and scumbag lenon giving rebel gestures to there fans and wining like children. They also cause damage and send hate letters to the referee.

So what your saying is it wrong for Rangers a British club to sing about our head of state and our country but its OK for them to fly Irish flags and how great it is to be Irish and how great the Ira are?

Tell me the last time a Rangers fan personally attacked a celtic player. Bet you cant I can give you at leats 4 or 5 sectarian attacks by them in the last 12 months.

The probelm is the irish hang up and the school system.

Sorry, Rangers and Celtic are SCOTTISH clubs, they play their football in Scotland.
I take it you didnt hear about the disgusting attacks on Neil Lennon?

The problem with the bigotry/sectariansim problem is that some people are too blind to see it happening, which I accuse the Rangers and Celtic boards of not doing enough to prevent it.

The Queen and Royal Family are useless anyway, I would never be proud to sing about them.

A lot of Rangers and Celtic fans are as bad as each other, personally I would hope for anyone to be caught singing God Save the Queen or Rule Britannia at Ibrox to be barred for life...just as those Celtic fans that sing Fields of Athenry should be barred from Celtic Park...

Get a grip mate really. What one isolated attack is the best you can give us on a poor we celtic player who is a B*****d I meet him and his attitude stinks.

Well lets see celtic attacks one Rangers and referee's

Hugh Dallas and mike McCurry gets his windows smashed and hate male.
Nacho novo gets death threats on his fence
Chris Burke and his family get attacked at a Chinese restaurant.
Poor Fernado Ricksen gets victimized.
Four Rangers players get attacked on a night out by thugs

I could go on.......

Im not saying Rangers fans are all good but its far more wide spread with that lot or as horrific SO is the Irish flag aloud at San giro? And exactly what is sectarian about the national anthem I think you are racist against being British.

What about the Rangers fans who sent nasty phone messages to the dad of the ref/linesman that sen toff Novo at Hibs earlier this year, sick as they mocked his illness.
Unfortunatly, your too blind to see that Rangers and Celtic both have massive problems, and you only want to see the problem that Celtic have and turn a blind eye to the Rangers problems.

Of course, Hearts and Hibs also have problems, but they are smaller teams from a smaller/crapper city (in yer face ScottishLaddie  Big grin )

I have a stupid question - how can one actually tell by looking at someone Scottish, whether they are Protestant or Catholic ? Is it a question of accent or dialect ? This is what is so bizarre - surely if everyone just shut up about whether they're Prod or Catholic, nobody would be able to tell, and the problem would go away !

I thought that the religious divisiveness in Scotland was a thing of the past. Granted, I've only been there four or five times, but it was over 140 years that my branch of the MacIntyres were chased out for being Catholic.

Please for God's sake tell me that people there aren't still being stupid over this.

I heard about the racism against Lennon, and was pretty disgusted about that, too.

Is this abberative behaviour from drunken soccer fans or is this indicative of a deeper problem within society there?

Is religion still that divisive in Scotland?

Is my Pan Am ticket to the moon still good?

bmi330 you are a disgrace to your country

Kirkie, it IS true that this is mainly a West of Scotland problem. And even there, only amongst a minority of nutters.

To equate the problem with football only obscures the reality, that apart from a few mindless morons who seem to have more interest in the sad history of the northern part of the island of Ireland, the entire isue is irrelevant to modern day Scotland.

Cheers
