Now they have this cumulative qualification thing, the starting positions are determined by summing the times of both qualification laps.. or something to that effect.. The idea was to end some of the crap teams pulled last year.

I am not too nuts about the new rules, but we will see what happens.. I liked watching the pit stops when the crews actually had something to do. I thought 22 people crawling over the car for 10 seconds really set F1 apart from pit stops in the inferior racing series.

The new wing rules are pretty stupid, everyone is saying all the downforce the FIA tried to take away the engineers have already gotten back.

Why did they make things worse?

I'm not sure about downforce, but lap times are somewhat consistant to last year. If anything, take away a bunch of those driver aids...

They have been taking those away, the drivers have to select gears now (I hesitate to say shifting) Traction control is gone, as well as a few others.

The qualfying should be better this year, it doesn't pay to sit in the garage just to get a later track position because a slow first time can kick your butt on final qualification.

How much of traction control?

I say the man w/ the fastest time from 1st Quals gets to choose, even at a moment's notice, when he goes out on the track.

But Melboune is famous for 2 things: uncertainty and Rubins saying its his year...

I watched last night here in the U.S. on the Speed Channel. What a relief from NASCAR (no offense to those racers or fans, but Speedchannel should be re-named the NACAR channel).

Yeah, too bad for those who had to qualify after the rain started. I hope Webber does well in the new BMW/Williams car. I am curious to see how former Indy 500 winner Juan Montoya does with his new team.

Maggs swings, it's a drive deep to left! The Tigers are going to the World Series!!!

Well if he botches he'll blame Haug.... Wink Even as a JPM fan he whines too much. Here's my conflict, BMW Williams and JPM was awesome for me, as JPM is my fav driver and BMW Williams is my fav team. I'm not a Webber fan and McLaren and BMW are rivals so what to do. Ah fuck it, GO RENAULT!

Traction Control is still there. When I was watching final qualifying this morning you could hear it kicking in on a number of cars.

Was also able to take advantage of the rules and put in a new engine, although that confuses me because the way I under stood it if you had to change an engine you would loose 10 places or whatever for 2 races not justthe race where you had to change the engine. It appears as if thats not true and you just loose it for one race. Making it for 2 races would make teams like Ferrari think twice about changing engines because they saw an 'anomily' in the data.

Man, if it were me I would not allow racing with the track in conditions like that. Also those cars do not perform well in those conditions at high speeds. I think it was a bad move to let it go on but it was not my decision.

Well with Kimi's recent drunken shananigans it could be true.
