Hotel guests in Thailand are suing the Thai government, the US and the hotel chain Accor for damages due to December 26th´s tsunami. According to themthe governments and the hotel chain didn´t do enough to warn the tourists.

I hope this case gets thrown out. IMO it is pure money grabbing.  censored

I might have guessed US lawyers would be involved, but Austrians as well?

"We don't earn any money on the lawsuit. We want to help people," he said. "We are suing to get information."

I like that part of the article  Silly

That's like fucking for virginity.

It's a bullshit lawsuit. If, and I mean if, the hotel is found not to have warned their guests (by some miracle they would have had to have known it was coming), this is leaving the door open for a lawsuit for money.

Throw this case out on it's arse.

I am surprised the US Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii isn't being sued yet.

Remember about a week after when that minister from Thailand claimed that the center failed to warn them about the Tsunami?

I think it is. the quote from the article:

"The lawsuit suggests the Thai government and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which operates a Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii, failed to issue the requisite warnings. "

Apart from the obvious stupidity of it, I'd love to know how you'd technically go about making a case that it's their responsibility.

I would be careful here. I heard that some of the hotel managers actually knew of the tsunami warning before the wave hit, but they chose not to tell the guests for $$$ reasons. If this is not the case, I of course do not agree with the lawsuit, but I think we shouldn't jump to conclusions without knowing everything.

I guess that's what happens in the end, you start thinking about the beginning.

The USA should pay for all the Tsunami cleanup and damages, because we caused it and deserve to pay for it.

What $$$ reasons could there possibly be?

What a load of rubbish!!!! This is so, so wrong on so many points. What happened was a tragedy, but where do those fools get their sense of entitlement from!!?!

Hmmm...the last time I went away on vacation it rained a great deal. I spent all that money to sit in the hotel room, and my luggage got wet on the way in from the airport. Why didn't someone warn me about the rain. I wonder who can I sue for compensation.  sarcastic

Among the charges leveled against Accor, the owner of the Sofitel hotel chain, was failure to equip its luxury resort and spa in Khao Lak, Thailand with state-of-the-art seismic detection and warning systems, despite its location "in an earthquake and tsunami fault zone."

You've got to be kidding me!. They expect a hotel to provide that sort of equipment? $20 says they aren't willing to pay extra for the trained personell to be on staff 24/7 to monitor the equipment.

Not only that, but since the fault rests entirely at Bush's feet, the UN should force him to go there and clean it up all himself.  biggrin
