Which is the most succesfull car ever made?
I'm not really sure how to measure the succes of a certain car-model, but if you go by how many of a certain model that was made, the VW beetle (the old one) comes pretty high on the list. Also the Toyota Corolla, but it has changed so mych during the years so I'm not sure if it counts.

The TOYOTA CAMERY! Totaly a major success. Best seller 4 years in a row, each year selling almost 1/2 of a million units. YOu can't beat that! It's a normal looking car but by golly the XLE v6 version kicks major ass. My father likes to drive fast and holey shit this thing flies. OMG. Believe me, the Toyota Camery is the winner here, no matter what anyone says.

Ladas popular in Europe? Think again! They are all banned because they do not meet emission standards.
They were popular by some groups, mostly communists (supporting the fatherland and such) and environmentalists (strange... Must have been to show they were working against the Western economic establishment (hmm, sounds communist thinking...)).

Yes, Airsicknessbag your right.
But: The most successful car is definetely the TOYOTA COROLLA. They even had a commercial about this on TV. It is the best selling car and topped the Beetle (and the Golf).
How come such a boring car is the best selling?!

The instant you said that I went to my local VW and bought 3 Golfs. I also blew up 5 more Golfs parking innocently in the street, so the owners have to buy new ones.
I hope everyone else contributes his share in order to make the Golf the most successfull car again - we Germans can´t let them Japanese hold that record; we invented the car after all!
P.S.: For anyone without a sense of humour: No, I was not serious.

One car that shouldn't be forgotten in this discussion is the 1920's and -30's Austin 7 from Great Britain.
It provided access to a car for the general public, not just the rich and wealthy, and was widely exported.
It was also licence-built in many countries, among them Germany where it provided BMW with some greatly needed cash during the Depression.
It was also the first car to be built by a Japanese company called DAT,later Datsun, nowadays known as Nissan.Plus many other countries.

The old VW beetle has been in production for 40 years in several different countries. I believe it is still the most succesful (in terms of number of cars produced) in the world.
174thFWff- you may like the Toyota Camry, but it still doesn't mean it is the most succesful car in the world! And it certainly doesn't mean you have to repeat it over and over again! In terms of number of cars produced it is very low on the list because its a relatively new model.

I think the Volkswagen Beetle wins this contest hands down.
The reason is simple: the car was very well-built, extremely reliable and was unusually roomy for its day. That's why from the 1950's to late 1970's Beetles were everywhere in Europe, and Beetles sold like the proverbial hotcakes anywhere in the world it was sold.
Today, a restored Beetle from the middle 1960's commands a lot of money.
I also liked the Beetle because my mom used to drive one when she lived in Hong Kong. Amazingly, that Beetle she drove is still around, recently completely restored to like-new condition in the hands of a family relative living in Hong Kong.

VW Beetle!!! I drive one myself. Do you know that it is still being produced here at Mexico? You can get a 2002 VW Beetle, and I mean the OLD beetle. It is not very confortable but very reliable. The cost of the parts is very low, often ridiculous. We even got a new one, but hey! this is Mexico City and was stolen a few weeks ago.
: VW beetle will be my 2 cents juanchito
