The Yankees and Red Sox open the season tonight, and the Yanks are about to finish off a big win over Boston. My boy Tino is back, and Randy Johnson is starting, making for a great game. I'm still not going to any games this year because of the whole steroid thing, and I can't stand Giambi, but I still love baseball. Post your thoughts on the start of the season.

great Yanks win 9-2! Good to see my fav (of recent years; Don Mattingly's my all time fav) Tino back and already contributing, classic Tino diving stop, and coming around to score from a walk. Nice first outing for RJ: 6 innings, 6 Ks, and 1 ER.

Cant wait for the season to get going, but I'm stoked for the 2005 season...my Padres are slated to be tops in the NL West, and Ill be pulling for em. I watched the Yanks/Sox game tonight, although the outcome wasnt one Id hoped for, it was good to be watching MLB again.

Always good to see the Sox get their asses handed to them, even if it is a meaningless Opening Day game.
Though it was meaningless, it was a lot of fun to watch. Matsui showed why he is arguably the most underrated player in baseball with the glove and the bat, Tino comes back and makes his presence immediately felt (why did we ever get rid of him?), and Giambi gets a good start to what will hopefully be a better year for him.
The Unit did well, allowing 1 run on 5 hits in 6 innings, and Sturtze was impressive out of the pen. Gordon was not so impressive, but that was mop-up work, so I'm not overly concerned.
Though it wouldn't matter if the Yankees beat the Sox 30-1 tonight - Boston is still the World Series Champion. And they will be until the Yankees beat them in the playoffs. October cannot come soon enough (though, to be fair, summer is fun too).

Unfortunately the barracks tv was in use, and the other base tv didn't get the game... so I was reduced to internet updates. Takes a lot of the fun out of it.

Completely agree. I've followed baseball since I was a small kid. I was only 15 when Mark McGuire beat out Roger Maris's 61 season homer record. I actually looked up to the guy during that period. Now, looking back on it, it pisses me off to realize just how unfair they were playing the game. Personally, I think the league should ban the use of steriods all together - screw what the unions would say.
Aside from that little rant, my Sox didn't do as well as I hoped. This looks to be a good year, we still have some holes to fill and I'd like to see some stronger pitching. Matt Clement has some real promise (we'll see some of that on Tuesday's game), but Arroyo didn't do to hot against Arizona and Shillings and Miller are both on the DL+15. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Yankees fair at Fenway on the 11th!
