In Switzerland, Pizza Hut and wendy's no longer exist. The Swiss division of those fast foods have gone bankrupt. i thus wanted to know if Wendy's and Pizza Hut astill exist in other countries and if yes, are they in big economic diificulty ?

I know why Wendy's went bakrupt in Switzerland

For example in Geneva, there would be two Wendy's 500 m from each other......... and in those 500 m were a Mc donald's and Burger King!!!! Already with one Wendy's they would have never had enough customers, but with two so close it explains the huge loss they must have made !
anyways Witzerland is not too welcoming for Fast foods. Only a few BK in the main cities, and Pizza Hut, Subway and Wendy's have all gone bankrupt !

P:S I don't remeber much Wendy's burgers but as far as I know they were not the best !

There is currently no Wendy's in Germany, as far as I know. I've seen them in Budapest once, but other than that, I'm not sure where in Europe they have them... However, there are two A&Ws in Germany though. Perhaps that will satisfy your hunger for burgers... yummy
Or maybe you want to go to Taco Bell instead  Wink If so, see this thread:

Anyone know where? It's so hard to find Root Beer in Germany.  Sad

Wal Mart doesn't seem to be doing very good over there as well. Maybe because in Germany they focus more on groceries then other stuff, the complete opposite as Canada.

Patrick

Actually Walmart is the number 2 retailer in the UK (with its ASDA brand). It's still a way off the number one Tesco, but it's overtaken the likes of Sainsbury's

Bankrupt is not the proper word for going out of business. I imagine that none of the chains that have removed their divisions out of certain countries did so because those restaurant chains went bankrupt. They probably merely closed down because of lack of business. That's most likely the result of being American-style eateries in Europe, which has different attitudes towards fast food.

Rest assured, all of those chains are doing quite well in their home market, America. Especially Wendys and Subway.

One is near Hannover, the other is in Berlin. It's a joint KFC and A&W place.

To answer the original question of the thread... Pizza Hut is doing so so in Germany. There are very few around, they are thus hard to find and they are unbelievably expensive...
They also have a few small express places where they only sell slices.
A whole Pan Pizza in the restaurant is the range from 10 to 15 Euros, that is much more than you would pay at any decent Italian restaurant, where you'd expect to pay 6 to 10 Euros. I guess that's why it's not too popular over here. If they lowered their prices a bit, I'm sure they'd be more successful.
I'd be interested to know how much they charge in other countries.
As I said before, there is unfortunately no Wendy's in Germany.

As Panamerican states, the A&Ws are in Hanover and Berlin. I was repsonsible for their introduction to Germany when I worked for Yum. Gotta love that Root Beer! The burgers are soooo much better than BK or McD

Pizza Hut are part of the Whitbread group, who own Marriott Hotels, Travel Inn and others over here in the U.K. They are, as many people have said, doing fine over here in the U.K.

Strictly speaking, Whitbread are only involved in Pizza Hut in the UK. It is a joint venture between Pizza Hut and Yum. Globally, Pizza Hut belongs to YUm, the largest restaurant company in the world.

But they're also just about twice the size. If you go into a local pizzeria and buy a "large" pizza for 5-10 euros, its only enough for one person. Where a medium pizza for 15-20 euros from Pizza Hut is good for 2 people. Most the people I know haven't even heard of Pizza Hut or KFC, all they know is McDonalds. KFC has been in Germany for 30 years and I just found out about it 3 years ago. So I think it might be a lack of marketing. Besides lots of Germans don't like to try new things, they like to stick to their "Currywurst, pommes, mayo"....Yum, yum!

cheers,
Patrick

Pizza Hut is still alive in Malaysia. Here, Pizza Hut is owned by KFC Malaysia Ltd, so it's not uncommon to have KFC & Pizza Hut side by side.

Haven't seen Wendy's for ages around here. I think the last time I had one was probably 15 years ago. We still have plenty of A&W outlets though.

Wow, then you did a good job there... When I went to Berlin lately I did not miss out on going to A&W and it was pretty good. You should have introduced more of them... Berlin is damn far away! Are they planning to get more of them over here? We really need more selection... McD, BK and a few KFCs and Pizza Huts are all we get here. Subway is growing though...
If you worked for Yum, then you should have also encouraged them to introduce Taco Bell in Europe, I'm sure it would go well. The TexMex foods are on the rise and have been since a few years. People here seem to like it a lot.
