(New York-WABC, April 5, 2005) — A Chinese food delivery man who vanished last week has been found, and he is safe. He was apparently trapped in an elevator in the Bronx for four days.

On Friday night Ming made a Chinese food delivery at the Tracey Towers then disappeared. This morning he was rescued from an elevator stuck between the fourth and fifth floors.
Looks like he dropped the food off, and then got himself stuck. Talk about bad luck.

I feel bad for the dude. Doesn't speak english and is an immigrant. My question is the police did a door to door search in the building, and NO ONE thought about the elevators?? I heard elevator maintenance was on strike. Still, no excuse at all.

There are a number of issues as to why this person was not noticed for several days. After he didn't come back for an hour, the shop he worked for became concerned and contacted police. The resturant owners were concerned that the man had been the victim of fowl play, from sumgglers or gang extortion. Probably this man entered and is in the USA illegally and working to pay off his debt to smugglers. His situtaion was probably compounded due to his illegality, lack of a cell phone, lack of knowlege of emergency system or them not operating, nor able or unwilling to call attention to get help, limited english and a strike of union elevator repair people. I would also suggest that the building had frequent problems with the elevators.
I wonder if he is going to be sent back to China or pressured to rat on his smugglers. Looks like a no win situation.
