It's only a matter of time until the US starts getting hit with suicide bombers. For years, we thought that terrorist attacks were something that only happened in the Middle East and Europe. The first WTC bombing threw that mindset out the window. Then we thought that all terrorists were Muslim. Then came the Oklahoma City Bombing. After that we thought that the chances of another bombing was slim and none. Then we had 4 airliners hijacked and turned into flying bombs. Right now we think suicide bombers are only in other parts of the world (Iraq, Chechnya, Russia, Bali, Madrid, Beruit, Israel), and are lulled into thinking that we're safe here. Islamic terrorists and their sympathizers are going to hit soft targets (subways, malls, resturants, theatres, clubs, city streets) because of the lack of security in those places. For every potential terrorist they capture, there's no telling how many have slipped through.

Tell you honestly, there is really no good way of stopping them. There are over 200 subway stations in NYC for example. We can't place cops all over or search everone's bags.
If someone wants to blow up something, it will happen.

Quoting Alberchico (Reply 4): If we had more surveilance and intelligence then it is possible to catch them all. That is why the Patriot Act was created.
How do you want to catch a determined single or close knit group of attackers? Ban the sale of water pipe, because somebody could use it to make a pipe bomb? Ban 4th of July firecrackers, because somebody could use the black powder out of them? Control hundreds of common industrial chemicals? Control machine shops, because you can use a lathe, milling machine and welding equipment to build a gun? Ban the sale of nitrate fertilizer?Do an ID card check for everybody who buys gasoline? There are lots of ways to kill.
You guys just have to live with the idea that there is NO absolute security, but increased control of the citizens evens the way for a possible future dictator.

Well, then continue to live in cloud cuckoo land. Over here we are used to terrorist attacks and we know that there is no way to stop all of them, even if you live in a 1984 type of police state. Some will always get through. The only way to defeat terrorists is by denying them the ablity to change the society. Fight them with legal methods, but keep as much freedom of the citizen as possible.
