Americans: Why Can't We All Be In The Middle?

Its a logical question. Why does it always have to be, oh you think this your a Republican, or you think that your a Democrat?? Obviously its getting us nowhere to be split on so many issues. In this country, its come to your either a Democrat or Republican. I consider myself to be Independent, and I find it alot easier to have a broader view on all of our issues.

Tell me why or why not you think its right/not right to just be in the middle.

We have too many left wing liberals and right wing loony's.

For most Americans, all you have to hear is "I'm a Democrat" and you stop listening to what he/she has to say. I think thats ignorance at its best. Same goes for both sides.

I couldn't agree more.

I agree with some things Reps do, and some things that Dems do.

I am really in the middle right now, becuase I don't like any of them.

I would like the following:

End of corruption or even the appearence thereof

End of Hypocracy
a)one party pro death at birth and pro life once born
one party pro execution, but not pro choice
b) parties claiming to be fiscally responsible spending more money then anyone before them.

End of people telling other people how to live based on ideals from a 2,000 year old book.

Start of responsibility, 'I signed that bill that everyone hates like poison becuse it really solves a genuine problem.' To which almost no one can debate

Seriously, how boring would it be if everyone agreed? I'm not saying that I enjoy bickering about every little, petty problem, but differences bring serious, thought-provoking debate, and that brings better understanding and awareness among everyone.

One of the drawbacks (and there are many) of an open, Democratic society, is that there will be people all over the road (Far left through far right and then some).

If everyone agreed on everything, or was middle of the road, our society would eventually collapse from apathy and neglect.

Just my opinion...

Hell, Man, there'd ber no non-Av forum then. What the hell fun would THAT be?

I think there are a lot of centrists here . . . and on A-Net. They, like myself, argue points they appreciate. Sometimes their points are left sided, sometimes right sided. Occasionally they are simply way the frick out in orbit (can anyone say RSmith, CORELUZ05, AJBUS300??  biggrin  ). But they argue the points in the 'direction' in which they lean.

I agree, it would be beneficial if the "country" in general moved that direction, but I don't see it happening. Unfortunately, too many people grab hold and cling to the party line, which ever party, even if they don't agree totally with the party. Not enough folk have the gut to go Independent for fear of being left out or literally made fun of.

Well, I'm proudly independent, and gladly vote my conscience, not who someone at the Repub or Dem or other "Alaskan" party tells me how to vote. Furthermore, I make opinion in the same fashion. If you like it fine. If you don't, I don't really give a shit. That simple.

I am Mike, I may be more Democratic on some issues. But on a whole, I'm Independent.

I've voted for as many Republicans as I have Democrats. I'm just not a fan of Bush, which would cause most people to think I'm a "liberal" or Democratic. If McCain runs in '08, he'll be getting my vote.

...and what's the difference between the Democrats and Republicans now?

It seems to me that they both say the exact same thing on all the relevant issues and disagree on all the issues that matter to about .00001% of our population like gay marriage and abortion.

I don't think we need to be in the middle I think we already are. I would like to see 10+ political parties that all represent something different.

and give DC residents the fu@#ing right to vote for our own representatives!!!

I have to agree with you USair..... I think we hear too much from the extreme left and extreme right... too much finger pointing, too much TALK just to gather in more votes. It seems as though this country, in reality, is more about the 'have(s)' and the 'have nots'. Not D's vs. R's. I think when we focus on the D vs. R battle, we lose focus on the real issues that affect us, like health care, social security, and other serious domestic agendas like that. I may be registered Republican, but I don't vote a straight red ticket. I used to be a Democrat, but I got tired of always hearing how it was the party for the working man (like my family) when I was younger, and when I got older, it just seemed like all that, like Republican crap, was just someone trying to smooth you over long enough to get into office.

I am religious, so that 2,000 year old book holds great importance to me. BUT, I am agreeing with you on the point of people telling other people how to live their lives based on that. I have my beliefs, and I will gladly share them with anyone who wants to listen, but I will not FORCE my ideas down someone else's throat.
