What REALLY pisses me off Larry, is how Labor Day is supposed to be a day off for EVERYONE not in an essential working field like police and firemen and hospital staff but it's turned into a HUGE sales day for retailers which means more places are open and more people have to work on Labor Day.

It would be nice if May Day could be the day off and ditch Labor Day alltogether, because trust me I'll probably be working.

The whole country shuts down for Christmas, which is not a LEGAL holiday, but a traditional, religious holiday. Easter's almost as bad. Could you imagine how many days a year business would stand still if Ramadan and Yom Kippur and every other religious holiday were "observed"?

But Labor Day? OPEN TILL MIDNIGHT! BIG SALE! SPEND YOUR MONEY! BACK TO SCHOOL! - Talk about a kick in the teeth.

I hear you man!
I missed your post. After I started this thread, I went out to a May 1st. Workers Celebration hosted by the Socialist Workers Party of the USA in Golden Gate Park. It was great and I had lost of fun.

Some retailers will give holiday pay to there employees for working Labor Day. Once the GOP Congress has given corperate America all of there wants, that will be gone too.  Sad

Don't be a Grinch about Christmas though. I like the Christmas holiday and everything associated with it.  Smile

This thread has gone way off topic.

Not really a Christmas grinch here, it's the principle of a religious holiday taking precedence over a National/Secular one.

Having said that, there's a bar in St Louis where Red Leather Santa sits on a chair and these hot elves (male, sorry Bro) take you up to him (and usually goose you on the butt), you sit on his lap, he asks if you've been naughty or nice, you tell him "naughty" and he says "that's nice"...cops a little feel and the elves whisk you away.

Always makes the holiday a treat!

Back to topic...I don't even get time and a half on Labor Day...and I'm in a union. Talk about getting it twice!

Here in San Francisco, there is about a dozen or so guys that dress up as Santa Clause and they go around town bar-hopping and getting $h!tface drunk. It is hillarious seeing these Santa Clauses without there sleds getting on the subways and city buses raising hell.
