Hey guys sorry to bring you another little moan but I need your opinion,

Ok IT Class at school is flopping..

The Year started out fine.. Me and others were ahead and doing really well and managed to sustain that until our first exams (I managed to get 2 Merits which are like C Grades)

We have 3 staff for 3 to 4 classes at one time including Year 10 /11 6th form and some young class...

1 of the teachers is fully qualified, another is still in training and 1 is just an ex student who is a technician..

Now here is where the problem has started.. 1 of the teachers decides to take 3 Weeks off.. And which class goes without ANY teaching for 3 Weeks? Our class the 6th form.. I know we are supposed to be the oldest and more responsible class but just been told this..

"The work you need to do is on the school network.. Do it"

and after that we was left for 3 Weeks and no one had a clue what to do. so now we are all 3 Weeks behind. But it gets worse...

Now we have all the staff back they have decided that they shouldn't need to give us help and that we are able to do it ourselves.. yeh all good for people with better learning ability's..

So now more Weeks have past and I (and many more) and so behind on our work. And there is no support there for us at all.. If you need help badly you have to cross into another lesson and ask.. But then you get told.. "im teaching another lesson so I cant help".. You find the other teachers in the office eating.. You ask them and get " just read it over carefully and im sure there is someone else who has done the work that you can look at"..

On one occasion I asked for help big time and I was told..

"Just Download something off the internet...."

Which is basicly cheating...

My Mum came up the school to complained to my head of 6th form and we was told that they would get me through the course and that he was going to talk to my teachers and get the work expanded to me ASAP.. So I went to my next lesson all ready for a hard working day.. Saw my head go into the office and talk to the staff and then he came and said to me "they will be with you soon" and left. So I waited and waited... 1 hour past... And I got a old folder of work literally chucked at me.. Waited more and more 2 hours past.. And I decided enough was enough and went up to my heads office and he told me to just stay up in the 6th form area for the rest of the day and work on my essay for English fair enough...

I turned up to school yesterday and I was on my way to the 6th form block when I heard my name shouted out.. My IT "Teacher" was stood at the other end of the corridor and was screaming at me "if you would have stayed in lesson for More than 1 hour you would have been told what to do!!"

I went to my head right away and said I was not having that... There was no need and any student shouldn't have to wait up to 2 hours for help and he agreed with me.. I went to the lesson again and I was sat there for an hour before I just had a bit of paper with some work on it.. All that was said to me was this...

"Heres some work do this and that".. that was

and guess what... I dont have a clue what to do and I dont even think its courswork....

So now I am 3 Weeks off my exams with 2 / 4 pieces of courswork done and I'm going to fail because I just dont understand what to do...

Any advise?

this is what i would do personally

go into your ICT teachers class at 850am tell him what u want to do etc and refuse to move until its been explained to you.
Prob helpful if you go with fellow class mates.

be warned though, when u get to uni, or college you are pretty much left to do it yourself.
My college teacher had no idea what he was doing so i ended up teaching the class the stuff, not very good if u ask me. He was an english teacher, incharge of an ICT class... this was for a whole year.

Alot of the time you will find the teachers just reading to you from the book.

Failing that, get your mum to email the school with all the data etc to your head, tell them they have till friday to respond and get it sorted and should nothing have been done positive go to the local papers explaining the poor teaching standards at the school....

use papers as last resort
usually threatening it does the trick

You are a month too late with this post. Had you gone to one of your potential MPs they would have taken it on and it would have been in all the papers - "Student who wants to learn but there are no teachers."

Firstly make sure it is not just you with the problem. If there are others in the same situation it will help your case. Document your concerns and go back to the Head. Ask him to put it in writing the actions he is going to take. If that doesn't work, see the head of the school governers. Nobody likes adverse comments and that should help.

One word of warning. If you do get help, work your arse off to show you mean it. If you don't, nobody will bother with you again.

Kaz, they're the best sorts of class! I used to love them, just doss about, awesome! Ok but your a girlie, dam, you're one of those types who tries to work while everyone else has a laugh! I hated those people.  Wink

Well I guess just be persistent in dealing with your teachers, it's their job to teach you. So take gladave's advice and schedule some time where you can get it explained to you step by step. Don't just nod your head if you don't understand, make sure it's clicking.

If all else fails then now's a good opportunity to learn Self Reliance!

Only joking, you can also ask me too.

One more thing though, when you go to Uni it is a whole lot different to college, like it's been said. You're expected to get on with the work and if you don't do it, then they couldn't really give too much of a shit. Still, you're not there though and for now you're suffering from under staffed schools. It's not just you that's having this issue, maybe take some comfort from that? But regardless of that, you are entitled to ze help.

That's odd, Merit in my IT courses is a B.

Credit = C , Merit = B , Distinction = A
