Connery. He had style, yet had a few rough edges that made him menacing. He could kill a woman and get on with business and get away with it.
Second choice is Roger Moore. Much more sophisticated than Connery's Bond, and not as mean, but could deal with the lighthearted side better.
Brosnan is OK. But too much of a "Pretty-Boy". He tries too look menacing, but doesn't quite get there.
George Lazenby was a late-60's attempt at a Brosnan-style pretty-boy Bond. He couldn't act worth a damn however.
The worst of the lot was Timothy Dalton. What a pussy. I don't even think he got laid in his first movie, where they tried to get PC on us.
Russell Crowe as Bond? Interesting concept. I could see him as a rougher, meaner Bond - sort of like Connery.
The ones based on Ian Fleming's stories were the best, I thought. Dr. No was almost exactly from Fleming's book, From Russia with Love was pretty close. They started getting further and further away from Fleming as time moved on, and basically ran out of books (even the short stories) after Octopussy.
I'll put Three favorites
- Live and Let Die
- From Russia with Love
- You only Live Twice
Almost as good are
- The Spy Who Loved Me
- Diamonds Are Forever
- On Her Majesty's Secret Service (would have been at the top if Connery had been in it.)

I'd say Sean Connery is number 1 followed close behind by Roger Moore.
I'm still laughing @ Redraider's post. I was wondering if someone was going to mention Octopussy. Every time I hear that movie is going to be on, I have to wonder how it gets by the censors and other words (some are less vulgar) usually don't.

My favorite Bond actor is, obviously, Sean Connery.
I don't know which movie is my favorite though. I don't know why everyone likes "You Only Live Twice" so much-- I think its one of the not-great movies. I don't know why, but I like "The Living Daylights" even though the acting isn't great. I guess it is the storyline.
But I am looking forward to Bond 20 which should be released in November 2002. Rumors are that it will be set in Dublin and the new car will be an ASTON MARTIN! We'll see... While we wait, though, the latest Bond book is out: "Never Dream of Dying" has just been released in the US.
