What Shall I Ask Kinky For Governor?

What shall I ask Kinky for Governor?

The Lone Star State has an Independent running for governor. His name: Kinky Friedman. His resume: Columnist, comedian, cigar chomping cowboy, best selling author, businessman by way of bottling olive oil, philanthropist, and founder of a band called The Texas Jewboys. He is the antithesis of being politically correct and promises to be Texas' first governor with a listed phone number.

He sounds like my kind of nut.

I’ll venture to see him at a meet and greet session this week. Albeit, I’m registered to vote in Nevada and unlikely to permanently return to my home state anytime soon.

I’m dumbfounded about what to ask him. About the good uses of olive oil? (Ahem, Superfly). Suggestions?

Now I'm sure exactly what you're saying (please do a grammar check before posting) but I'm guessing you're asking what Kinky plans to do in order to defeat Rick Perry? To answer that, there isn't a thing he can do in order to defeat Rick Perry. The only person who could cost Perry the governorship (other than Perry himself) is Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and she hasn't decided if she is going to run for governor.

No, he isn't. That rumor was started by a campaign official for the state comptroller, Carole Keeton Rylander Strayhorn. Strayhorn wants to be governor but knows she isn't very popular and the only way she could defeat Rick Perry would be a smear campaign.

Strayhorn is a nut in the crazy way.

Freidman is a nut in the kinda, get-with-me-and-vote way. I heard him on the radio here once and while I was at first taken aback, he's my kinda dude.

Friedman's just another word for nothing left to lose. My Governor is a Jewish Cowboy (some of his actual campaign slogans). I'd love to see Kinky elected gov. here. A good question would be how he plans to fix the education crisis in Texas: last in graduation rate, 47th in SAT scores, and $115 million short on textbook funds for next school year. Where will he find the funds and into which specific areas will he put the funds? Which programs might have to be cut or reduced to fund education? And does he plan to finally give the teachers the money that Governor Bush promised them in 1998 but never delivered?

Kinky is a much better choice than Perry, Kay Bailey, or whomever the Dems run in this state (Bell looks like he might have a leg up on Sanchez).

Thanks for posting the link my fellow Texan.

I’m trying to figure out if this nut has any real positions or just running based on his celebrity value – a la Arnold and Jesse ‘The former governor/The body’ Ventura. Sure, his site does contain brief blurbs about issues like education. I notice there is a new .pdf file, put up in the last 24 hours. It’s easy to make fun of government – either the far left or far right can get away with that.

Texas ranks 49th is terms of gubernatorial strength even though the governor signs death warrants. The state constitution fills up volumes upon volumes.

Which is simply a formality. The governor of Texas cannot stop executions except for a single, 30-day stay.

It's interesting here in Texas: the Lieutenant Governor, Railroad Commissioner, and a couple of other people all have more power than our Gov. But that still doesn't mean that I want to give Kay Bailey or Rick Perry the position.

I never understood the Railroad Commissioner either; it's not even an appropriate title, just a carryover from days gone by.

TX certainly has decentralized a great deal; almost too much given the fights that go on in Austin.

Freidman could really shake up that hornet's nest.

I think I’ll ask if that is his real first name.

True about the RR Commissioner – if you want to bribe the most powerful Texas politician.

For B757300's benefit, since proper grammar usage is a necessity when posting on a forum that is frequented by English professors (I guess A.net is included in this statement), I was not asking what Kinky plans to do in order to defeat Rick Perry. I was asking what Kinky Friedman will make Rick Perry do when said slimeball loses the gubernatorial election.
Oh, and btw, Rick Perry is doing a fine job of costing himself the governorship.

About 500 turned out for this event at an art gallery in an uppity part of Houston. There was free fare catered by a local Tex-Mex joint and an open bar. I chatted at length with about a dozen people most every one had never heard of the guy. The crowd was very well dressed and there were quite a few high end cars in the parking lot with Kerry bumper stickers left over. There was a lot of multi colored hair and piercings where you don’t normally see them.

Kinky himself was wearing a black felt cowboy hat and smoking a cigar while standing in fancy boots crafted of some dead animal.

Here are two of his campaign stickers…

His given first name was Richard. In hindsight, I would’ve asked the origins of Kinky.
