Trip down memory lane/back in time.......

Now this is a topic that is sure NOT to garner a lot of attention or even replies, but I thought I would put this out there. Does anyone here (age 35 and over) recall the truly warped yet hilarious 1971 Canadian TV kids show, "The Hilarious House Of Frightenstein", which was aired on CHCH Channel 11 in Hamilton, Ontario.? The show also was shown across Canada and in many parts of the U.S. I clearly recall watching this show as a young kid, and loved it.

Today, "The Hilarious House Of Frightenstein" has a fairly large cult following throughout North America (which came as a huge surprise to me), and I have gladly joined their ranks. To say this show was weird, bizzare, warped and lunatic would be putting it mildly.

The late and great Canadian actor Billy Van was the star of the show, and portrayed such memorable characters who resided in Castle Frightenstein such as:

Bwana Clyde Batty
The Gorilla
Grizelda, The Ghastly Gourmet (My personal fav)
The Librarian
The Maharishi
The Oracle
Dr. Pet Vet
The Singing Soldier
The Wolfman

Also featured on the show was the late great Vincent Price, who would introduce each segment of the show with a ryhming narrative. He also closed each show with the following speech:

"The castle lights are growing dim,
There's no one left.....but me.....and him (motions to a skeleton sitting in a
corner of the Count's castle)
When next we meet in Frankenstone......
Don't......come alone!"

And then, Vincent would break out in an evil, diabolical laugh.

Fade out. End.

Check out this great website about the show at:

And it would appear that this show truly has its share of die-hard fans, as
a group of Frightenstein fanatics who work in the Canadian TV/film industry have put together a "Frightenstein Fest", an afternoon and evening dedicated to this looney tunes show.

FYI for "Frightenstein Fest":

Date: May 15, 2005
Location: 'The 360' Club -326 Queen Street West, Toronto.
Buffet, full bar, clips and segments from the show to be aired, and former crew members will be on hand to answer fans questions. A short documentary about Billy Van will be shown, and afterwards, the awesome psycho-surf rock band, 'The Tijuana Bibles' will perform. Canadian actress Dinah Christie will be there to talk about her old pal, Billy Van (they appeared together on "Party Game" - another early Canuck 70's TV blast from the past. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
