On a trip to sunny Paris several years ago, I noticed all the city water would run down the streets of various arrondisemonts. Can anyone say why this is so?

This was pointed out to me when I visited Paris in December by a friend. He said it was simply a way to clean the streets - flush all the rubbish and dust that collects in the gutters into the drains. I'd say this was a valid point as I'd seen road sweepers sweep rubbish into the paths of water.

Then again he may have been wrong lol...

I'd say gravity has a lot to do with it. When you have a higher level that descends to a lower level, liquids such as water tend to flow in the direction of the lower surface.

When I was last in Paris the only liquid I saw on the pavements was urine - you have to pay to use the public toilets so people pee all over the streets.

Not nice!
