At Taft high school today, what started as a fight between two girls, spilled into a riot of 2000 kids fighting and stampeding. What the news said is BS as I talked to the Dean of my school and friends that our at Taft High School. There were also two police helicopters on seen when this event happened as you could see them from the Middle School I attend. Also, I think that this Racial issue is becoming a serious problem, and I expect to see something similar to the L.A. riot happening again, in the near future do the huge problems. There are race related fights at my school everyday, or almost at this point. If anyone cares to see the story and lives in the L.A. area, watch the News today at 4 5 6 8 9 10 or 11:00 p.m. to see the story.

I had a cousin that attended Taft High School back in the mid-90s.
He didn't start any fights though.  Smile

Here's what I don't get:

How can there be any valid race issues in High School between students? Is some group of students being deprived of the right to vote for Homecoming King and Queen? Exactly which group of students is being paid less for their time in class than other students? Is the teacher's voice in a certain frequency range that only allows Asian students to hear the lecture?

Hate is the only violence issue in school, and it is only a race issue because racism is the laziest and shallowest form of hate.

Is there anything really worth fighting over here? The problem is that a fight broke about between two girls (don't even know the cause or the ethnicity of the girls) and 2000 other students thought it would be better to continue the fight rather than just break up the two girls.

I'm just happy that RR ratings can't be in negative numbers!

If they were smart they would have thrown the two girls in the nearest pool of mud. Then that would have been a show.  Smile

Ok, because in schools now a days all that everyone wants to do is see what is going on. So there is pushing and shoving to see what is happening, and sometimes that pushing and shoving can escalate which it did into two black guys and 4 Hispanics starting another small fight. This was just the exploding of the racial tension at Taft High School, but I am guaranteed it is not the end of what is going to happen.

I still think it depends on where you are. I remember there being one race related fight at my school. It was between a black and mexican kid. So many race-related fights in high schools are between those two groups.

Yes sir that is indeed correct. It is actually located in a somewhat middle class area. The middle class area is sout of the Freeway. But this made me second guess my decision not to go to Calabasas High School.

I'm gonna get flamed for this but I honestly think this is an only in America thing because I can not think of a single incident in Canada that has even 100 people involved in a school related incident and I believe that the Europeans can say the same thing about their high schools.

I'm not from the valley, but I end up spending a lot of time there because I went to high school in the valley and a lot of friends and family live there.

I think they ship kids from downtown to go to taft...part of the integration program.

Are there really such tensions in other high schools? I'm 4 years removed out of high school and didn't experience such a thing when I was in it. I went to a Catholic high school though.

In any event, I hope that what you say is not true:

God forbid man. Do you really think the climate is ripe for riots?

Anyway, why would you not want to go to Calabasas? That area is really nice...although Valmar and mulholland get pretty trafficky in the morning.

I can only agree. Although I really do not think that 2000 people were involved in this...taft isn't even that big. Probably they were just quoting the student population of the school.

Taft has got 3500 students my friend, and they had two helicopters up there that were LAPD units, they had the streets blocked off, it was like we were getting bombed and my school is about a mile away.

Also answering your question regarding Calabasas, I dont like the whole drug problem they are having there and I also dont like the homogeneous environment. I understand that with diversity will come fights like this, so I am willing to take that risk. Also, I see it as a lot of people trying to make friends with me as I am the second biggest kid in my school This is in middle school though. But Calabasas is too stuck up for me and stuck up is one thing I cant stand. I also live in Calabasas, but I opted out of their schooling system for many reasons. If you would like more info feel free to E-Mail me and I will gladly answer any and all of your questions.

Put a black guy in a Polish high school classroom in the West side of Warsaw (Warszawa Praga) and see what happens...got $20 it might be worse than this because it says only minor injuries occured.

Then you must have not seen that video taken in a classroom in Hong Kong. There were 5 kids beating the living shit out of another. Apparently those kids had connections with a HK Triad.

I think though that the number of "involved" include mostly people that actually want to see what is going on rather than actually being involved.

Fine you can believe what ever you want, recently there was a fight at Santa Monica High with hundreds of kids, there were just separate fights between rival gangs, somewhat what it was like at Taft today.

Nobody has mentioned that after 30 years of coddling students according to race and all the integration, and ll the warm and fuzzy PC diversity training, race relations in the schools are no better today than 30 years ago(and maybe worse).
PBS had a documentary in which some students carried cameras for a year at Berkely HS. Berkely-as in the original model of integration. The students divided themselves more than ever by race. The blacks were taught how badly they were treated by the whites, so they learned to hate the whites. The whites had enough and were telling them go to hell. The asians were off sitting by themselves(getting all the good grades). All in all, it was a poor showing for the PC crowd. I grew up in a racially tense area and now go out of my way to live in a mostly homogenous area. Much more peaceful when you take out the race rivalries. I really believe the "diversity" crowd has really f*cked up our society long term.

It's interesting how the administrators quoted in the article seem to bend over backwards to say it was not racially motivated.

I embrace diversity and I think it's important, but I think that society is two-faced in this way. Diversity is encouraged and yet supressed by the same PC Police that would like everyone to be a _______-American. Throw in some idealistic teenagers in the mix, and fighting is what you get.

Still I think relationships ARE better than 30 years ago. In high school I had White, Asian, Black, and Hispanic friends, me being Indian. The same wasn't possible back then.

Oh, but 30 years ago, in the high school that overlooks BFI, I also had black, asian and samoan friends. The populations as a whole segregated themselves but there was certainly overlap. I don't believe things are any better today.

They are not valid, they are just ignorant. Someone with authority (that they accept) must inform them.

Quoting Sacflyer (Reply 2):

Again, ignorance. Hate is not a reason, it is an emotion usually the result of simply "not wanting to have anything to do with" something or someone else. To qualify for the hatred action, we would have to take matters in our own hands against this person or thing. If I say, "I hate...", I'm just being ignorant, that for my purposes, informing myself is not an option.  Yeah sure.

Teens are all competing to be the same thing: pure conformity. However, one cannot hide their race or ethnicity. Sadly, it is more convenient to accept stereotypes than getting to know your 'opponent'. Hence the confusion that rooted in ignorance is what caused the fight.

Same in these forums.

Again, someone with authority (that they accept) must inform them.

No it was just merely a reply to all who found fallacy into my story, did not mean for it to be so derogatory and it wasn't aimed at you.
