With the release of their new album, Mezmerize, I was wondering if there were any fans of theirs here on A.net. If you haven't heard their new album, you definitely should, their best IMO, even though I'm sick of B.Y.O.B now from playing it over and over before the album was released.

If you've heard their new album, what are your opinions of it? Better then the rest?

Still haven't heard their new album. A friend also told me that it was great. I'm not a really big fan but I like their music. Don't know the names of the band members but I guess the frontman's name is Serge Tankian.
All Armenian names sound similar, so I can be excused  Big grin

I think they are the worst band in the world. Particularly the singer, I can't stand his voice. Probably the most lame, abnoxious drone I've ever heard. And that new song they just came out with is total nonsense. It sounds horrible, like a local high school garage band acting like retards.

Mezmerize is alright.

Toxicity is one of the best CD's I've heard. Every song is awesome.

I enjoy Chop Suey and F-the System the best.

Dear System of A Down,

We need our riffs back.

Sincerely,
The Nu-Metal Association of America

PS: Tell you guitarist to stop making stupid faces and wearing L.A. Kings clothing when appearing in publications. He looks like he's 16.

I really liked SOAD when they first came out. I even saw them in concert about 3 times, but now it seems like they're just out to try to get the last pennies they can get. This album doesn't sound like a "let's go make an album and have a kick-ass time!" album. It sounds like a "let's go make an album otherwise our record label will kick our ass!" album.
And I know Tankian can do better vocals than that. His range is so amazing that it's saddening to see him appeal to the cookie monster variety of vocalists. If I want cookie monster vocals, I'll go listen to Six Feet Under or something like that.

Well that's your opinion, and I respect that. But behind those trashy sounds are some pretty good lyrics. Quite a few being against the U.S. wars (especially on Steal this album, and the new one.)

Hey, you gotta start off somewhere. Don't you?

Their best album by far is Toxicity, I have not heard B.Y.O.B. yet, but these are my favourite songs for them (in order):

-Chop Suey (Toxicity)
-Toxicity (Toxicity)
-Spider (System of a Down)
-Innervision (Steal This Album)

I don't really like metal, but for some reason I like System of a Down's music.

My opinion is that if anybody here tried to cover BYOB, they'd fail miserably. Even if you don't like the song, you have to respect the intricacies of it, Because getting 4 musicians to go from a half-orchestrated feeding frenzy to perfect harmony in 4 off-time beats is something many have tried, yet few have been able to do successfully. my hats off to SOAD.

the part I'm talking about is the verse in BYOB where it goes from random to "Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth." During the "Still you feed us" part is a complete dynamic shift.

I like System of a Down, even if I don't agree with their political views all the time. Their music is interesting and enjoyable. I'm not sure I like BYOB though, the jury is still out.

Yup, I have to agree with the teenage garage band analogy, even though I'd call them a politically overcharged garage band. If you want to listen to nice nu-metal, try Submersed, and if you want killer metal period, I'd recommend groups like Dream Theater, Aghora, Kappel Meister, and Nemesea (now there's a good singer).  whistleblower

One of my friends turned me onto the song B.Y.O.B. and it is the craziest song I think I have ever heard.
