Nancy and myself will be honeymooning in Ireland from July 26- August 3. If any A.netters find it convenient, we're buying the first round. Drop me a line.

If I happen to visit my girlfriend, who lives just outside DUB during this time, we might meet (and meet Teahan and UTA_flying_low as well).
Were do you plan to go in Ireland?

Ok, if you go to Co. Galway, don´t spent too much time in Galway town (I know it is quite nice though). Continue west towards Connemara national park (very beatifull) and finally towards a small town called Clifden, which is sited on a fjord. On the hill (If I remember correctly called "High Street", but not sure anymore) there is a very nice B&B with the sitting room windws overlooking the fjord entrance, very romantic (spent a kind of honeymoon there with my girlfriend).
Shannon is rather boring (I only lived there for 2 1/2 years and workied in the big, white hangar on the northern side of the airport), it is just an artificial industrial town with houses for the workers to sleep in. Go north for another 20 km and you will reach Ennis, a nice little town with several good pubs. I also advise you to drive from Ennis to Ballyvaughn in the Burren area (the landscape, which inspired Tolkien to write his "Lord of the Rings" and to visit the Ballyvaughn cave. From there you just have to drive around the eastern end of Galway bay and you´ll be in Galway.
Limerick, abou 25 km east of Shannon is quite nice nowadays. The Victorian slums are long gone and the unemployment went down due to the Shannon Free Zone, it doesn´t look anymore like something from "Angela´s Ashes".
