So I have just inherieted a bunch of old floppy disks that contain a variety of old archived content that might be useful. I thought I would just load it up onto my PC, organize it, and burn it onto a CD and call it a day.

As it turns out most of these floppies are MAC format. But I did luck out, as 3 old PowerMac G3s are in the next room (the original beige ones, not the cool teal ones). Just from looking at a few of these disks it appears that most of the files were created in AppleWorks, most of them are text documents or spreadsheets, but at least one is a database.

Either way it looks like lots of floppy swapping to make all of this happen. What would you suggest I do here?

-Take all the word processing docs and open them in Word and save them on a Windows formatted floppy and swap, or is there something easier that I can do.

Also note that those MACs are not connected to any server at this point.

It would indeed be the easiest way to load the documents and export them in a format you can use (ASCII / RTF for text, CSV for data bases).

Perhaps you can export the into a normal Word (.doc) format which can be read by Mac or Windows.

Just look at the exporting options - and try the import on your target system before putting the originals away...

That is what I pretty much thought. I've been dumping the floppies onto the MAC on and off all day. Then I will go through and figure out what is worth archiving and convert whatever I need to over to an MS Office format and be done. Just wish there was an easier (read less time consuming) way.
