Any time a chick tries a traditional "man's" sport, everyone goes nuts. If she wants to try, and is any good, fine. We don't need to spend time making it into the biggest thing on the plannet. Women want everyone to hear how they are capable of doing anything men can...And that's fine. I'm not against that. I'm against them doing that, and then trying to steal the spot light like it's the single greatest accomplishment in the history of the world. You tried it...You failed/succeeded....Move on.

I've seen this before as well. Janet Guthrie, Lyn St James & Sarah Fisher all had their 15 minutes of fame at Indy...now it's Danica Patrick's turn. Who will #5 be? Next lady driver, please? Regards.

As to the e-bay auction of the damaged wing from Ms. Patrick's car, the monies from the sale are going to an Indiana based charity for mentally handicapped children. That is really cool. I hope it ends up in a place like a auto racing themed resturant that used to be down the street from the Indy track that had (has) car racing related stuff as decorations.
By the way, she look's good in that pic .
While she didn't win she was a very competitve racer with a competitive car going against some much more experienced (at Indy) racers at her first race there. Driving race cars isn't like weight lifting, although it demands tough athletic ability. Not too many guys can or get the chance to race cars and she has proven and paid her dues in road racing in Europe. She definetily has a racer's heart and drive (as proven by her catching up after the pit stall and wing ding). I wouldn't be surprised of her winning an IRL race this year. After Indy, she is I believe 8th in IRL driver standings.

Harry, Understatement of the Year Award candidate for sure.
She's damn hot!
Now, I don't put her in the same league as the others who've had their 15 minutes of fame. Show me any other female driver that has kicked ass and taken names the way she has - and NONE of them can compare to the showing she had at Indy this year. Tell me she didn't kick ass and I'll tell you that you didn't watch the race.
I definitely think she's got what it takes to continue to compete above and beyond the standard of her previous female contemporaries.
I expect she'll win races this year - and put some of her male counterparts to shame. Awesome driver. Still makes a few rookie blunders, but so do rookie men - so no problem.
Did I mention she's hot looking too - damn hot looking!!!

By the way, she has qualified for 3rd starting position for the race this week in Texas, doing better than her teamates. They are also painting a huge mural of her by the grandstands of the track. There was an autograph session at the track, and people waited hours for her signature. Other drivers in IRL are fans of her, in part because she is giving huge attention to the IRL. Texas Inl'l Speedway is a VERY fast track, a well banked 1 1/2 mile oval, with a history of close finishes of 1-2-3 finshers. Bet a lot of people will be watching this race at the track and on TV on Saturday. It will be starting in the early evening, under the lights by the finish, with coverage on ESPN starting at 8:30 pm EDT

Oh, you did. Well, how could she not be with an a$$ like that?

And if it was not for crappy fuel management by her team, she would have won the thing

The thing to keep in mind is that the team skipped a fuel stop to keep her out on the track so she could make up for being 13th at the time. That strategy got her into 1st, and 'made it interesting'

Danica's really hot & already a good racecar driver. She's probably going to win a few races this year (I'd watch her this week at Texas) & may contend for a championship down the line.
The problem for me is because of ABC/ESPN's hype about her & the extensive media coverage she got during the Indy 500 & everything that led up to it. I'm sure more people know that she finished fourth than they do know that Dan Wheldon won the race (and had Vitor Meira and Bryan Herta finish ahead of her.) ABC's race coverage focused on Danica as if there weren't 32 other drivers in the field....instead of seeing Wheldon do a burnout that led him to run out of gas, we were "treated" to three straight Danica-related interviews (her mom, Rahal, Danica). Because of that, I'm sick of her & hearing about her. I know it was a big story, but if they hadn't jammed her down our throats at every possible moment, maybe she'd be even more popular.

That strategy call was the only thing that got her into the lead at the end. Without it, I think she still would've been mired mid-pack because of the problems she'd had during the race.

When they interviewed Rahal after the race he indicated no matter how they played it, if they stopped for fuel or if she ran out she'd have finished 11 or 12 based no her current position and lead lap cars. Keeping her out, running to save fuel, got her into the 4th position finish. Another gallon of fuel or two and it would have been all over.
The fact that she's a dynamite looking woman (hell, that's an huge understatement) . . . coupled with her ability to drive the pants off most men on the track (probably literally and figuratively) makes her a celebrity.
Full credit to her ability to drive a car. Full credit to her looks. She's a great package any way you slice it.

Wow, I'm amazed at how crowded the Danica Patrick bandwagon has gotten. It's up there with the NY Yankees bandwagon (which is currently out of balance since there masses of people jumping off).
Don't make that call until she's standing next to a car in a pair of tight leather shorts with a flag tatooed on her backside . . .
ANC, something your missing is that she could be 2 feet taller then Danica, have an A$$ as big as mine (hubble still can't fit it into frame), and STILL be hot to me "just because she's a redhead."

Quoting Garnetpalmetto (Reply 22): Gotta say, Patrick is more attractive than Crocker, but Crocker is still better looking than the last female driver to grace NASCAR, Shawna Robinson
And a better driver also. I watched Robinson in Vegas three years ago . . . what a loser. The pack would come around, zoom, zooom, zoooom, and then a second or so later, here she comes - Chug Chug Chug . . .
Quoting B757300 (Reply 21): That said, IMHO she is a beautiful woman but that tattoo ruins it for me. Tattoos are just one thing I find to be seriously unattractive.
