Morning all,

Anyone fans of Elton John? I'm off to see him in concert tonight (with Lulu apparantly) at Watford FC for the "Vicarage Road Back For Our Future" concert. Should be good  Cool

Also just wondering if anyone could give some photography tips - cameras allowed but no flash (wouldn't make any difference anyway the distance you are from the stage). Taking the 75-300mm lens to try get some photos (with the 300D), it's going to be 7-10:30, so light in the early parts of the show and dark in the latter, any tips on settings/modes? Weather looks good for once too!

Mike

I'm a big fan of his earlier stuff...probably up to about 1985. I remember playing his first album on cassette (not sure of the name, but the one with 'Your Song' on it) when my sister got her fist cassette player back in 1972/73. And 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' is one of my favourite albums of all time.

I also used to like Lulu when I was a kid too (I'm assuming she's the support and you're not actually going with her)! I remember buying 'I'm a Tiger' and leaving it on the back shelf of my Dad's car on a hot summer day while we went in to visit my grandparents. As if by magic, when we came out I had an instant flowerpot!!

Ummm... "indifferent" probably describes it best. I'm not that much of a fan of his music, but in some moods it can be nice to listen to.

Go into 'O'neills' in Watford afterwards, order a pint, and get served by me! Big grin

Just got back, great night had by all. I hope RJ111 isn't getting mobbed in the pub by all the crazy Elton/Watford fans. He's doing another one in 2007 to celebrate his 60th at Watford which should be even better than tonights.

Will try to get some pics up tomorrow, think I got a few ok ones at full 300mm lol.

I've liked most all of his music...since some of earlier had a very classical influence...have seen him twice in TPA but that was some years back...once was with Billy Joel at old stadium...seeing 50K+- people with lights swaying to Candle in thw Wind was especially memorable...

It was quite busy in the pub last night.

You could hear the music from my house before i left, which was nice.

Hope it was a great concert!

One of my favorite musicians. The songs I like include Mama Can't Buy You Love, Philadelphia Freedom, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Candle in the Wind, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight.

While we're at it, could someone answer the following questions:

1) where did he get his stage name (his real name is Reginald Kenneth Dwight)?

2) who are Daniel and Nikita, in the songs of the same names?

I have loved Elton's music for thirty years (yes I'm that old), seen him a couple of times. Elton's problem is he is on the road too much. Both times I have seen him he has had some sort of throat/vocal problem. Had great seats at an Elton/Billy Joel show two years ago - Billy Joel stole the show with his boundless energy and enthusiasm while in contrast Elton looked tired and performed like he was just going through the motions.

Not sure who either of them are, but I know that Daniel is a great song (bought it on 45 when I was about 6 years old) and that even though the video for Nikita featured Elton lusting over a Russian female border guard (yeah right!), Nikita is generally a man's name!

Didn't MI6 investigate a rumor that he had the hots for this man?

Ignoring above,

I like Elton John a lot... I grew up with the Crocodile Rock, and Benny And The Jets. I loved it when Tiny Dancer made it onto WKRP  Wink I loved the video for Good Bye Norman Jean and balled like a little bitch when he did England's Rose @ Diana's funeral. I also liked it a lot when he donated a piano to a family with AIDS for Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

Sir Elton John, you are worthy of the designation, you have my love for your music, and most importantly you have my respect!!!

I'm surprised that nobody has posted an AirTran - Elton John 717 yet on this particular thread.

I like most of his earlier songs from the '70s.

Sorry for the delay in posting in this thread.

Count me in as an Elton John fan!
I like all of his music up til 1983.
Many Beatles fans would kill me for saying this but I think he did a much better job of 'Lucky In The Sky With Diamonds' than the original Beatles version.
Other greats is his duet with Kiki Dee; 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' and 'Philidelphia Freedom'.
Goodbye Yellow Brick road is an amazing LP was well as Rock Of The Westies (sp), Victim Of Love, The Fox and even 2Low4Zero.

Anything after 1984 is junk.
