I always find topics like this somewhat amusing...so here goes: What singer has a voice or style that absolutely sets your teeth on edge? Here are mine:
Male - Michael Bolton. When he sings, he sounds like he's in pain, as if someone kicked him in the balls.
Female - Mariah Carey. I can't stand her screechy, overdone voice, and when she hits those high notes, it's like fingernails on a chalk board!

I agree....yes yes yes...Bolton and Carey both deserve to be strapped into chairs and subjected to each other's music. Whitney Houston also does well in my personal 'Worst of...' list. She'd get to have her eyes forced open a la 'Clockwork Orange' and have pictures of Mr Bolton's haircuts paraded in front of her for 24 straight hours. Mm, lovely.

You're never going to believe who I pick... I can't come up with a male, but my female vote goes to Judy Collins.
Sure she's famous and all that, but her voice is too smooth for me. I want some SOUL in the sound!
I mean, who else could take "Cat's in the cradle" and turn it into a ballad? My goodness, it's supposed to be a PROTEST SONG!!!

Male: Justin Timberlake from the teen pop group NSYNC.
I used to hate Macy Gray's voice but now I have developed an taste for it (hers is definitely an acquired one).

Michael Bolton sang the "Spirit of American" song you hear when watching the Spirit of American propaganda film at the C.R. Smith museum in DFW . I don't like him. I wonder how much AA paid him to do it? It's a damn good thing they don't show that movie on all their flights!

I think Carey sounds wonderful, but she looks like not a very nice person--kind of loose. But I love her voice and singing.
My least favored sound coming out of a human is probably Johnny Mathis. He has a good voice but sings in the cracks (he misses the pitch slightly).
Of dead people I'd say Janice Joplin. She sounds like all she's singing about is a small leap from Hell.

Worst Male: Definitely All the Boy Bands. I can't tell you how many times their voices have been layered.
Worst Female: Definitely Britney Spears, Christina Aguilara, and Jessica Simpson are in a 3 way tie. Again, Layered voices sound horrible.

MALE: Any boy band. They all cannot sing worth crap, they just get up there and shake their asses and the girls scream.

Sn330, it does take talent to rap. They write their own music. You try writing hard rhymes (not nursery rhymes) and then saying them fast and not sounding like an idiot, its not too easy.
Worst female voice= Macy Gray, take some Nyquil ,DAMN!!

WORST FEMALE: Barbara Streisand - enough said
WORST MALE: Sisqo (rapper) - it sounds like he is masterbating while he sings
BEST FEMALE: Britney Spears - I'm sorry, but I do like her music
BEST MALE: Garth Brooks - Until the whole 'Chris Gaines' fiasco (what was that, anyway), he was my favorite performer

Hamlet69, I thought I was the only one who likes Britney Spears, cool.
25 Sn330: Boy bands are terrible. How do they manage to get their voices so high. Also, Britney Spears is not that great of a singer, but she is hot and apparen
26 Ilyushin96M: I'm sitting at work and hearing Paula Abdul's whiny, off-key voice singing is making me nauseaous. How the hell did she ever get in the recording stud
