Is this family trying to convert you, or other people? And is your question about whether Islam as a religion would force you to give her up or whether you should give her up based on the level of conservativeness of the Muslim people you would interact with? I do not know too much about Islam and its restrictions on dating (is your girlfriend not a Muslim?), but if the pressure comes from Islamic family and/or friends, and you really like this girl, then I think under no circumstances should you break up with her.

Does anyone here know about Islamic restrictions on interreligious dating and/or dating in general?

Why should you convert? Why doesn't she convert? Don't convert if she loves you, then she should love you even if you are Christian or Hindu and which ever religion you belong to. Forget the fact that Islam doesn't allow dating, no religions allow dating, that's beside the point, if you are a Christian how can you stop being a Christian? GOD sent His son JESUS and loves everyone one of us so much, in Islam, Muhammad did nothing like giving up his life. Email me for more info.

Exactly how is this relevant?

My advice: Convert if you believe in Islam. If you don't, heck no. I'd never let anyone push me into that sort of thing...

My vote's for Christianity, if that's what you are already. I can't change your heart or convince you -- that's up to God Himself. But I can tell you that you will never be alone if you put your faith in Jesus. Don't trust me, trust Him.

the guy's asking whether or not he should convert and I'm saying NO, because I live in Dubai (if that's not relevant dunno what is), and in the midst of muslims and believe me it's not a religion you'd want to convert to. My advice is to go to a church and seek advice from a pastor. I agree do what your heart says, but I dunno why people in the West are generally ready to always convert, why doesn't the other person convert? Do you know what people here call you? DIRTY, INFIDELS, SINNERS. I love Christianity and my GOD, and would never give 'em up, let alone for a girl...

This is a matter that is entirely up to you. In other words, trust your own instincts and no one else's.

I may not know that well about Islam as a religion, but I don't think there's anything in the Islamic religion or the Qur'an or anything of this sort that forbids any Muslim to have relationships with someone of the opposite sex.

Personally, I know a friend who is Islamic and was from East Africa. He had a girlfriend who wasn't even a Muslim, nor was she even of African or Middle Eastern descent, and his family did not have any problems with that at all. He is well known and liked in his community and no one even cares about that kind of thing.

The thing is, religion shouldn't matter that much in the face of relationships, as long as it's okay and you and your girlfriend still love each other.

Religion gets in the way sometimes. But I believe in God and Jesus. This is about relationships, right? Who do you want to talk to, God and Jesus (who are alive)? Or Muhammed who isn't?

The two beliefs both hold to the belief that Abraham was a God-fearing man.

But the Christian Bible shows Abe married to Sarah and bearing Isaac. But before this time Sarah asked Abe to have relations with Sarah's maid, Haggar, to give Abe a son. He did, and she gave him Ishmael. Haggar was not a Jew. But this relationship was one of non-trust in God. Ishmael came about because Abe and Sarah thought that God needed a little help giving him an heir.

God doesn't need help. But we do. If we trust Him He will give us many things.

But this relationship you want with this female is certainly not worth losing your relationship with God. The God of Islam is not the loving God of Christianity.

I live in Dubai, in the middle east, AND YOU SHOULD SEE WHAT THEY SHOUT IN THE MOSQUES ON FRIDAYS. Sometimes I get goosebumps, because I'm horrified from what they say, how can anyone want to convert to Islam, a people full of hatred towards all religions particularly Judaism, it says in the koran that if you die in a war you'll straight to heaven, it encourages people to fight! In the koran it also says that if a woman is held as a prisoner of war or concubine, them men holding her have every right to rape her!!! In churches on the other hand we are taught to love, and i don't care if some Christians in the past have been racist or something bad, that doesn't matter, those are the people but the bible itself isn't racist. Stick to JESUS, HE REALLY SAVES!

What do you mean Christianity teaches you to love, and respect one another. See the Southern Baptists, who think Jews killed Jesus, and are trying to convert all of them.
Every religion has its faults, don't get me wrong, so one shouldn't criticize another's, because they could turn around and say something about your religion. All it is is finding which religion is best for you. If Islam is it, than convert, but if not don't.

That is the problem with all relgions. Most if not all of them have faults when compared to today's morals and ethics, and that is compounded by the fact that some very dumb people are practicing them, who often have no regard for other's rights and take to extremes various aspects of the religion that are very outdated this day in age.

Ek_A340: could you give us a little bit more information on your predicament? We may be able to help you more then.

Marco, you obviously don't know what you are talking about.

There are over one billion Muslims on this planet, whether you like it or not, and very few of them are rapists, or terrorists. You have some nerve saying we all hate people of all other religions.

You are making one big mistake: YOU ARE GENERALIZING. Keep on doing this, and I assure you, it will get you into a lot of trouble.

I agree that Islam does have faults, but they are no more serious than any other religion.

EK_A340, I really don't understand your situation. Please explain your situation. Remember, religion is based on what YOU believe, not someone else. It is a decision only you can make, and it should not have to do with any other factor.

RELIGION in general is a SICK kult. People kill over religion cause they think they are doing this for their GOD. Thats SICK.
What GOD???? Who is that person/item/animal????
Religion was created by mentaly ill people. They were thinkin' only how to get lots of money and have POWER.
Religion is a SLAVERY. You are dependent on your KULT. You will do whatever they tells you! Thats sick. You are human being and you should do whatever you want NOT whatever THEY want.

ONCE AGAIN I'LL REPEAT, THE BIBLE DOESN'T TEACH ANYTHING BESIDES love AND peace AND THAT'S A FACT NOW, YOU CAN'T TWIST IT, SO IF THE SOUTHERN BAPTISTS DO SOMETHING THEN IT'S NOT CHRISTIANITY'S FAULT, YOU PEOPLE ARE MIXING THE TWO. AND WHEN I GENERALIZE ABOUT ISLAM, I'M SPEAKING ABOUT 90% OF THEM. I LIVE IN DUBAI, A MUSLIM COUNTRY, DO YOU? NO! LOOK WHAT THEY'VE DONE TO YOU AMERICANS, BLOWN UP PAN AM IN 88, 2 EMBASSIES IN 98, OSAMA BINLADIN WANTS TO KILL ALL AMERICANS AND CHRISTIANS. SO IF TYOU WANNA CONVERT TO A RELIGION FULL OF HATRED, DO SO.

MARCO YOU ARE THE MOST IGNORANT PERSON I HAVE MET ONLINE.

SO, 90% OF MUSLIMS ARE THE PEOPLE YOU DESCRIBE? RIGHT. YOU REALLY NEED TO GO TO A THERAPIST OR SOMETHING. AND YES, I HAVE BEEN TO DUBAI, SO DON'T GIVE ME YOUR CRAP.

SO, MUSLIMS ARE SO BAD, EH? THINK ABOUT FOLLOWERS OF YOUR RELIGION. THINK OF THE ENDLESS BRUTALITY IN NORTHERN IRELAND (BETWEEN CHRISTIANS AND CHRISTIANS!!!!!) , THINK OF HITLER AND WORLD WAR II, THINK OF THE BALKAN SITUATION, THINK OF THE EUROPEAN COLONISTS THAT KILLED MILLIONS OF ABORIGINALS IN NORTH AMERICA, SOUTH AMERICA, AFRICA, SOUTH/SOUTHEAST ASIA AND AUSTRALIA (GENOCIDE!!!!)!

BASED ON THIS, I COULD ASSUME THAT 90% OF CHRISTIANS ARE THESE VIOLENT, BARBARIC PEOPLE MENTIONED ABOVE. BUT THE TRUTH IS, THEY'RE NOT. IT'S THE SAME WITH MUSLIMS.

ALL SENSIBLE PEOPLE KNOW THAT ISLAM IS NOT A BARBARIC RELIGION AND THAT NEITHER IS CHRISTIANNITY.

ISLAM IS NOT A RELIGION OF HATRED. IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO IS FULL OF HATRED.

To everyone else, I am sorry I had to use all capitals, but it seems to be the only language Marco understands.

"What do you mean Christianity teaches you to love, and respect one another. See the Southern Baptists, who think Jews killed Jesus, and are trying to convert all of them."

I feel the need to speak to both of these points briefly.

First, Jesus was killed by Jewish people. Of course, the Jewish people alive today had absolutely nothing to do with it, just as I, as a caucasian in the 21st century, had nothing at all to do with the oppression of slaves in early American history. However, the people who were involved in the crucifiction of Christ were, by and large, Jewish - that just was the prevelant religion of the time in the area. In reality, nobody should hold a grudge against the people involved - were it not for his persecution, Christ would not have been sacrificied for the forgiveness of sins. The people involved didn't do it out of spite; rather, they had to do what they did to fulfill the very purpose of Christ's life.

Second, although you don't seem to see it this way, the Southern Baptists (I am not a Southern Baptist, by the way) are trying to convert the jews because the Bible teaches them to love. Look at it from their perspective... they know the key to eternal life, and they see other people who don't yet know it. It is out of love and respect that they try to show the light to those people who do not see it. To put it in a more easily-understood scenario, imagine that you knew a bomb was going to go off in a building, and that everyone in the building would die, while those in the building next door would survive. Would it be more loving to tell the people going into the ill-fated building that they, too, will survive, that all the buildings are the same, that it doesn't matter which building you choose; or would it be more loving to warn them that they are entering the building that is going to explode? Of course you would tell the people that their building was going to explode - you would be remiss not to... this is, in a round-about way, what Christians are doing when they attempt to introduce non-believers to Christ. Just as those who entered our fictional building will die, so too will those who do not believe in Christ. I don't want to come across as though I hate or judge or look down on people of other religions - I don't. I do, however, believe that Christians, and Christians alone, will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, and I can understand why some people try so hard to pass this understanding along to people who do not yet have it. Though you may not agree with them, those who attempt to convert people do so with the very best of intentions.

I am Jewish, and whether you like it or not, the Romans killed Jesus, it is in textbooks for g-d sakes. History has proven that to be so. How could the Romans be Jewish, but yet they treated them like peasants and slaves when they conquered Israel. I am not real religious at all, but what you are saying was basically along the lines of Christianity is the only way to heaven, and everybody else will go to hell. I have news for you. Christianity and Judaism worship the same G-d. Only one difference between the beliefs of them, basically. Christians believe the Messiah has come, while we(Jewish people) are still waiting for it to come.
The Jewish people in America right now are one of the most understanding and accepting groups (Except for the Orthodox, that is another story). But it still seems that every time we respect another's beliefs, we end up getting harassed.
Look by no means am i a deeply religious person, and I believe that religion means less today than it did in the years past. I hate talking about it, and it really bugs me when people say how great their religion is, even when Jewish people say that. I just think that the Southern Baptists should leave us alone, and let us do our own thing. We have not asked them for help, nor have we done anything do them. We just want to be able to obey our religion peacefully.
All everybody really wants is to be respected, and we must start by respecting other religions.

To understand why Jesus was put to death a brief history lesson is in order: The stability of the political climate required a bizarre co-dependent triangle between Pilate, Caiaphas, and Herod, where each depended on the for survival. The one thing the Romans feared was insurrection, and so Pilate relied on Caiaphas and Harod to maintain order. Caiaphas for his part knew being able to practice the law and traditions was at the sufference of the Roman occupation and so had to work hard to keep the peace lest the occupation turn ugly. Herod was little more than a puppet, and relied on the other two to keep in in the style to which he was accostomed. He was a figurehead who was kept around to give the veneer of legitimacy to the Roman occupation. Thus each had a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. Jesus represented a threat to that status quo and that's ultimately why he was put to death.

I think that respect SN330 talks about is crucial. How we discuss and dialague, learn what we have in common, and work from that common ground is far more important than trying to prosleytize one another. If someone whishes to convert, they must do so of their own free will and without coersion if that conversion is valid. Evangilization is far more effective if people see that we live what we believe, instead of trying to get someone to believe what we live.

BTW, Moslems worship the same God as Christians and Jews; they trace their linneage through Abraham. Ironic isn't it.
