Is There An Internet 911 Equivalent?

I was wondering,
What if there's a medical emergency, robbery, assault, fire, you name it... and I only have an internet connection but no telephone? What would I do?

Probably my best shot would be starting a NonAv thread, but the first 3 posts would be "Here is the room of those who care", by post 8 it would turn into a heavy Europe vs. USA bashing about who has the most efficient arsonists, by post 15 it would turn into "post a picture of your last crime", by post 22 it would turn into "It is all GWB's fault", and by post 35 the whole thread would be deleted.

So my point is... is there ANY online equivalent of 911 emergency response? And if yes, would that be international? Have you ever thought about the same thing?

NO..

The only thing that MIGHT even come close is VOIP services such as "Vonage" (Which I use) and they have e-911 service through bellsouth as of recently.

Best Bet: get a 'prepaid' cell phone and only use it for 911.

Actually this prepaid cell phone doesn't even have to be active. They can't call you back, but any US cell phone can access 911, and if it's a GSM 900/1800/1900 or 850/900/1800/1900 or 850/1800/1900 can use 112 abroad, even without a SIM card.

Indeed, pretty useful in case of medical emergencies and fire.

Yeah, but has the EU 'forced' Vonage to hook up to the EU version of 911?

But back to the topic... wouldn't it be rather easy (and potentially save lifes) to set up such an online 911 equivalent. It would directly transmit your request to your local emergency response. Heck, they could even put ad banners on the page. Like "Ads by Gooooogle... Buy 2 Fire Extinguishers, get 1 free!"

You forgot to mention that on post No. 40 , the inevitable question: What is better: A or B?
On post 45, anything related with the NW DC9's !!!
