Remember how before 9/11 there were a bunch of shark attacks here in the US?

A few days ago, we had a bunch of shark attacks being reported all at once. Why is it that when sharks start going crazy, the terrorists go crazy too?

To that you can add the Chandra Levy case that was all the rage just before 9/11 and the missing girl in Aruba.

Now, let's talk about the JFK/Lincoln coincidences!

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.
Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both were shot in the head.

Lincoln's secretary, Kennedy, warned him not to go to the theatre.
Kennedy's secretary, Lincoln, warned him not to go to Dallas.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners.

Both successors were named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.

Both names are comprised of fifteen letters

Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse.
Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

Statistically there have been no more shark attacks in the past month than any other month. Its just the stupid media blowing something way out of proportion, like always.

There are over a thousand HUMAN bites a year in NY alone but the media has been covering TWO shark attacks. There have been 39 shark-related deaths in the USA since 1580. Yeah, 1580.

More people die falling off toilets or choking on pens, or from their own dogs than sharks.

People don't die in shark attacks 3 times in a week though. Sure, you may get bit by a small one while scuba diving, but a "shark attack" can range from a nibble to getting your head ripped off.

Statistics can be very decieving. Statistically speaking, you should be Asian.

In the U.S., your chances of getting killed by lightning are 30 times greater than dying of a shark attack.

Bees, wasps, and snakes kill more people each year than sharks.

Drowning, heart attacks, beach accidents resulting in spinal injury, sunburn, cuts from stepping on sea shells, dehydration, jellyfish stings, and traffic accidents going to or from the beach are all far more common than shark attacks.

In 1996 in the U.S. there were 18 reported injuries and deaths from shark attacks, but 198,849 injuries from working with screws, nails, tacks, and bolts; 138,894 injuries from ladders; 43,687 injuries from toilets; and 36,091 injuries while pruning, trimming, or edging plants.

Between 1959 and 1990, 5,528 people were stuck by lightning in the 22 coastal states (excluding Alaska) and Puerto Rico, with 1,505 fatalities. During the same period, there were 336 shark attacks in the coastal waters of those states, with 12 fatalities.

In 1987, New York City reported the following number of people bitten by dogs: 8,064; other people, 1,587; cats, 802; rats, 291; squirrels, 95, raccoons, 11; ferrets, 7; skunk, 3. There were 13 shark injuries reported nationwide the same year

I know, that was my point....that they are just as absurd as this thread!

How many people visit the beach vs. how many people live in the United States? I live in Arizona and I see many more storms than I see of the beach.
You're comparing apples to oranges.

OK, so what you're saying is that shark attacks are relatively rare. Hence my point still stands. Isn't it odd that shark attacks have seemed to coincide with two of the most major terrorist attacks in the last few years?

Either way you play it, it's a strange coincidence.

Any of you suppose that Ted's inability to to use his brain would coincide with the number of wine coolers he has consumed today? Ted, don't slam your wine coolers, it's not very lady like.

Hmm I have two theories.

1. Terrorists like to buy big expensive shark costumes with sharp teeth and play dress up off our coasts.

2. Karma is real and after these terrorists get killed or kill themselves, they are reincarnated into sharks and they work together with the human terrorists to literally bite us in the ass.

A possible real theory is that when things start to calm down, the news starts trying to horrify and scare us in different ways, such as reporting shark attacks. Terrorists realize things have calmed when the news media starts reporting things other than terrorism to try and scare us and knowing that we're once again thinking we're impenetrable to terrorism, they decide to strike. But then again, I think my first theory could also have quite a bit of credibility.  Wink
