PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING, TRIED TO MAKE IT INTERESTING...

So the topic says pretty much all of it: what do you think about them?  scratchchin

I think is totally stupid and unnecessary. I mean, why would you hide your identity? After all, most people you call are people you actually know, and they either recognize you right away, in case they don’t, you’ll say your name if they don’t recognize you. If they don’t know you, well they will react in a very different and stranged (sp?) way, because you hide yourself and they don’t know you...
Here in the 3rd world, where a telephone (specially cell) is something still very flashy on society, people think they are important by having their telephone number blocked. Well they will go to the supermarket with a calculator in hand saving every damn 1/10 of a penny, but they’ll still pay to have their number “blocked”.  banghead  Oh yeah you’re super important. In this part of the world, people (80%, regular ignorants) think they’re so cool by doing this.  bigthumbsup  congrats to all of them btw!
Well I came up with this topic because just like an hour ago someone called my cell. So I rush to it since it was in my room: shows up “Número Privado llamando”. I’ve always had the same concept on this and always think twice before answering, cuz really I see it like: ok so this person thinks it’s important enough not to let me know who is it?
Ok wel,l I did answer, and I loved it cuz I’m like:
<- Hello?  box
-> Yes, hi, who am I talking to?
Alright, now...  dopey  excuse me? 1. You don’t identify yourself. 2. You’re not even calling a home or a company, you’re calling a personal cell phone. 3. And you think I have to tell you whom the f*** I am? People, I love people.
Gotta love it because in the 3rd world, when people are on the phone is like... I don’t know, something special. So you know, at least a regular, educated family like mine and like 20% of total families in this country will teach you to never start out like that, and whenever someone asks you that, your right-away cutting answer must be: whom would you like to talk to?. Whenever someone starts out like that (like demanding to know who’s it), shows how poor education they’ve got. Oh wait, but that same people that go out: who am I talking to... will like scream with a: who are you looking for! to whomever makes that question. Parents always say that, well you know when you’re a kid and you’re still learning society stuff (phone use), they tell you: remember that whomever asks you that, will not answer you if you ask them. I hate the 3rd world, people is so stupid on shit like this.  no
Well, my strategy is that I like say a name but all mixed up (like something really fast not even clear) and if that person identifies or I recognize them I’ll keep on going the call, or just say yes for whomever they ask.  liar
Today it was this old lady (or so she heard like), wrong number anyway, and after I said: sjhalvrnclc (just to say something) she was like... hello, are you Mr Emilio Ramos, the cemetery sales man? Yeah I was like... oh yes hello how are you yada yada. Well I just made up a whole like 30 minute conversation answering this ladies’ questions. Btw she’ll be in my office tomorrow at 9! lol I always have fun when these chances come up. Have you ever done something like that? lol  wave
Good thing is I discovered I’m quite a good graveyard seller!  tombstone  rotfl
So, what do you think of “private party calling”? In case you have your phone set like that, for what reason? (other than making yourself think you’re so important...  Yeah sure )

I’m about to start a boycott on these calls  talktothehand . If I ain’t worth enough to know who’s calling me, then I think I ain’t missing much in that phone call. Plus, I will not always be able to answer the phone. If I miss a call I will glady call you back later. If I don’t have the phone number available and you don’t call again, it means it was something not important...
Oh one last thing, how you refer to this in English: blocked number, private number, private party? just wondering what the.. like... popular way to refer to it is?

Let me hear ya a.netters! & thx!
saludos,
_A

I answer no call that comes without a caller ID.

I have no phone number listed anywhere - except with the Gov't and my employer.

I employ the "No-Call" list for my home and my cell. I also put my Mother's number on it.

I've received perhaps a half dozen calls since I went on that "No-Call" list, and was not pleasant to any of them. I recall at least 4 being from Political Campaign Assholes calling to tell me to vote . . . (all were democratic candidates for Senate and President**). I insured my number was removed from their call list.

If I want to talk to you - I'll call you. Otherwise, unless someone is dead, or you're female and looking to get lucky, don't call me.

Can't help wrong numbers, but they are few and far between.

**  biggrin  just wanted to get a rise out of the democrats on A-Net . . .  biggrin

Whenever a telemarketer calls, I'll sometimes pick-up and play games with them. Sometimes I'll pretend I don't have a clue, while other times I'll pretend to become offended by what they say. Most of the time I'll just speak gibberish. As long as you show the slightest bit of interest in what they're selling, they can't really hang up.  Silly

People will pick up their phone, look at it and say hhmm...the number's blocked..and set it back down. That's what I always see happen.

ANCFlyer took the words out of my mouth. Don't call unless I know you, and if you call me once and I say WRONG NUMBER, DON'T CALL ME BACK A WEEK LATER and ask for the same person. She doesn't have this number anymore.

Damn the  irked  me to no end . . . especially if I'm busy with something.

Political Campaign

Don't you just 'love' the exceptions to the "No call" list? Talk about crap legislation...

Another advantage I have with Vonage, none of the telmarketers have access to the #..Fu¢k them !!!

First off, my cell phone stays off. Heck, I don’t even know where it is right now.

My home number is 100% available to anyone who wants it. I’m on every list known to mankind.

I’ve donated money to political campaigns (Democrats and in one case, a Republican). And believe me, they never let you forget you donated $$$.

There are no laws governing ‘market research’ ~ fancy term for push poll. Why? Who’s going to legislate them self outta that?

No laws – they can call anytime ~ 24 hours a day.

Now, telemarketers, I jack with them big time.
