A newer, shorter, less-time-consuming-while-waiting-for-the-thing-to-load thread.

This info is copied from DL021's post in the last thread (which, if you need a reference, can be found here: NYC Meet Official Thread - August 6th-7th (by Mir Jul 18 2005 in Non Aviation)

OK...final update...here it is with the concrete drying. Lets make this work with minimal changes.

Attendees:
1.Mir (Local)
2.RJPieces
3.DL021 (arr.LGA 08-06@10:22 on FL360; dep LGA 08-07@0600 on FL371)
4.PHLBOS (arrives 10:30-11 AM 8/6 by car from PHL, will stay through dinner)
5.Logan22L (arr 8/5 LGA @ 1421, US2129 from BOS, dep 8/7 LGA @ 1600, US2134 to BOS, staying at the Drake Hotel)
6.Superfly (arr 8/6 @ JFK at 0000, dep 8/7 JFK @ 1625)
7. USAFHummer (arriving w/PHLBOS)
8. Wagz (arriving w/PHLBOS)
9. Daumueller (arr 8/6 JFK @ 1925, LH404 from FRA, staying at Time Hotel
10. Mirrodie (local)

Spotting at JFK, meeting at 1100 at a JFK international arrivals, eating lunch at whatever local deli looks good and quick for takeout.

Spotting and general bullshitting until 1600 or whenever people get tired of it, then move into town.

Supper and lieswapping at DaNico's starting at 1900 until whenever people get tired of that, or 2130 when some of us are leaving for The Bluenote to see Clark Terry "Bigdad", a living legend. Logan, Fly and I and who else?

Post Bluenote show we will then crawl Jazz bars/lounges until the wee hours, ...we will also be on the lookout for etrange'.

Other stuff that didn't make it in, we'll be meeting at 11:00am on the check-in level of Terminal 4, in the middle (isn't there a hanging sculpture there that we could use as a good landmark?).

So far, the two cars we'll have to go from JFK central to the spotting locations, and to go from there to dinner have one spot left (I assume that Daumueller will make his own way to wherever we are). JFKspotter, I think that you're that last person, unless you have your own car that you want to use.

Anything else I've forgotten, just add it on.

JFKSpotter....of course you are welcome. We'll expect you and add you to the list. Do you have wheels?

Mir...do you think the other place you mentioned is a better spot? Let me know. I think I know about which sculpture you mention. I'm good with that.

I'm making reservations today for 10 people at DaNico's.

Anyone else?

I do, for the reason that it's going to be less crowded (though T4 is rarely really crowded), it's more out of the way so that we won't be in people's way if we want to sit down to wait for latecomers (it's carpeted too). I think it's more practical, but I'm not going to make a big fuss over it if people want to meet elsewhere.

Mir...I think that you are probably correct about the crowd size at terminal 4, but since they closed the rooftop on term3, and there are restaurants in Term 4 we can sit in so we don't squat on the floor. I think that the proximity to the short term parking near the Int Arrivals is the best bet for us, even if things are busier there.

Now there is some construction going on there, and the parking situation is rather fluid. I recommend that anyone who plans on parking there use the lot closest to Term4, but if you want the first hour for free and a ride around the airport then park near term8/9 and take the airtrain. Cool ride with occasional good view. We might even use that to get to Manhattan if we choose to leave cars at JFK. Option that will be voted on when we hook up.

Let's plan on doing this unless someone has a really good idea, then IM me so we can put it up.

I thought we were talking about the center on the departures level?

Terminal 8/9 parking is closed. Everyone should park at the Terminal 4 outdoor lot. By far the easiest, and that way when we're ready to leave (and the PHL car needs to follow us to the spotting area) they won't need to take the AirTrain back to their parking lot to get their car.

Superfly, have you decided where you are staying yet?

Well, depending on where in Flatbush you are staying, I could probably give you a ride to JFK. Once we all meet up in Terminal 4, we'll figure out who is riding with who to the spotting locations.

The PHL contingent will be leaving the Philly area around 7:30 AM, and with no traffic we forecast getting to JFK around 10 - 10:30ish...however, we'll probably hit some traffic somewhere along the way, but I personally think barring a total "nobody is moving for an hour" backup, we'll probably be there a bit before 11ish...

Mir....yeah, but I thought you were a peacenik.  Wink

Fly...Oh, I told someone about that and they asked if I got to actually put anything on there. I asked them...."Do you fly Continental alot?" and they said...with visible relief...."no!" and I replied "Well, then...nothing to worry about!" Adding an in-person wink. I let the girl off the hook pretty quickly, but she was surprised to say the least!  Smile

Now, of course, I did not touch anything and was being supervised by three different Boeing employees to make sure all we did was watch, but it was terrific. I got to see how professional all the assemblers are and I saw their new moving assembly line. They got Toyota engineers in there to help them modernize their process, and have made terrific strides in productivity while enhancing safety. It's pretty amazing. They really earned some good press out of that.
I do a good bit of flying and meet others who fly alot. The conversations often center around the mechanics of traveling and what makes it easier and better..(ie ff programs, airplane/airline/airport amenities, etc) and when I mention the actual means of building the airplanes people are impressed to hear how they are built and how much care goes into it. I know there are more than a few people who now know what a 787 is and why they are going to enjoy riding in them.
