Spider Pee -- What To Do?
User currently offlineLooneyToon From United States of America, joined Mar 2005, 444 posts, RR: 1

A spider (don't know what kind) peed on my face three times in one night a few nights back and now my face is burning wherever the pee was. The skin has sort of bubbled in the area and it is red. It even peed on my eyelid causing it to swell and leave my eye half open.

Does anybody know what to do? This has never happened to me before. How long is it going to last?

I'm just wondering why you didn't kill the spider after it peed on you the first time?

If you haven't already done so, get your ass to a doctor. If you have already done so, get your ass to a doctor a second (or third, or whatever number is appropriate) time.

I also nominate you for strangest thread title.  Smile

In all seriousness, hope you recover quickly. That sounds pretty painful. Are you sure it wasn't a bite?

I'm assuming you washed your face the morning after it happened.

I'll second that.

Sounds odd, but it does happen!

For a quick remedy, take a couple of children's aspirins (the chewable kind), crush them to make a paste, then apply this paste onto your skin. It will help you heal a bit, but still you need to see a doctor.

Seriously though..get to a doctor...I'm sure a real doctor is much better than a.net..heh

Yeah, I washed my face and took a shower the morning after.

Have you tried this before and does it work? Or do you want me to put crushed aspirin on my eye for laughs? LOL

Quoting Springbok747 (Reply 6):

Well it could have been a bite, but the school nurse said it peed on me. There is no better way than starting senior year than having a swollen face!

supposedly, the skin reaction is supposed to die off over time.

oh yeah! I have one more question.

How often do bugs and other critters get inside the ear? I have had an earache (and swelling below the ear) for several days and thought that maybe the spider crawled in? Would it be dead by now?

My ear stopped hurting, but the swelling is still there.

Wholy crap man, do you sleep in a basement in a pool of muddy water?

I wouldn't trust what a school nurse says, if it really hurts, go to a real doctor.

If you are saying the lid is swollen, are you sure you're not dealing with an external/internal hordeolum or a pre-septal cellulitis?

Spider pee vs. a spider bite, only an etymologist (sp?) will know.

I would say that it didn't pee on your face but rather bite you.

There is actually no need to do anything despite you live in the tropics or you have a really big spider at home which escaped from it's terrarium. I was bitten by several ("harmless") spiders and, as you can see, I am still alive.

I will never ever forget a spider bite at Lake Tahoe, I swaer, I never had such a nasty pain in my femoral! Since that day, I hate those frigging animals!

Well the skin also reacted on my forehead on 2 locations and 1 location on my eyelid. They look the same and I got the reactions at the same time so I assume its the spider bite. The lid isn't swollen per se either, it's just that the reaction seems to have dried up the skin leaving a kind of bump. Also, I Googled hordeolum and pre-septal cellulitis and it looks nothing like it.

I'll agree with that! Mine knew only one thing to do - slap an ice pack on the part of your body nearest the pain, which was ok if someone had thumped you in the head, but not so useful if you had food poisoning.

Hope the problems are gone soon - maybe you should try sleeping under a net if things keep attacking you in your sleep?

OK folks, here is an update on my spider bite:

On Friday, my family and I decided to go on a weekend trip to Argentina. My eye was getting better (putting cream on it) and the skin reaction was drying up; which was supposed to happen. On the first night in Argentina, my eye was almost better. Well, the healing came to an end the next morning when I woke up not being able to even open my left eye! It hurt and was swollen shut. I ate breakfast at the hotel with one eye open and the hotel manager recommended that I go to the local hospital in town.

Well I visited the hospital and met with two doctors who confirmed it as a spider bite and an infected eyelid due to the poison. Both doctors were laughing at what I looked like, I must say, I did look funny. He prescribed me some pills to take and also to take a shot (in my butt) to reduce the swelling. I did it all and it was all FREE! I guess healthcare in Argentina is free, even for foreigners. Almost instantly, the swelling went down and I also bought the pills to take.

Now my eyelid has this giant scab on it and it still doesn't open all the way. It still iches and it is a bit swollen. I guess it is now on its path to full healing. Big grin

Oh yeah, they sure do! Just 3 weeks ago I was in San Antonio, Texas visiting my grandmother and was bitten by another spider but on my nose. It looked like a giant zit. It cured after 3-4 days though...

Besides going to the doctor, you might also need to have the pest control people come to your house...seems like you have a bit of a critter problem...  yuck
