THe NYC meet went extremely well, and we all had a great time.

A few highlights to list while I sit here at LGA waiting for my flight to leave at 0600 for ATL:

-Everyone actually found each other fairly easily at JFK Terminal 4. The Philly crew made it in very early and had to wait.

-Drinks at JFK are still $2.50 at the machines.

-TWA signs are still over the jetways at the old TWA terminal.

-RJPieces has difficulty focussing on the road when driving near airports or airplanes......eyes on the road, slugger...(thanks for driving)

-The spotting for JFK is well researched and terrific. We saw pretty much every kind of passenger and cargo jet flying today, from DC-10's to A-345's and a couple of spectacular MD-11's and 744's at very close range. Superfly got to see two, count 'em, two Olympic A-340's. Logan22L got to see his MD-11 from Finnair with the new colorscheme (really pretty airplane).

-DaNico's is a very nice restaurant and we all ate too much. BigPhilNYC actually kept his clothes on for the entire meal, and Mirrodie brought his lovely wife to lend a little class to the affair.

-Clark Terry and his 17 piece jazz ensemble is.........phenomenal. Those guys can really make some noise..... I'm telling you that was incredible.

-The dirty jokes that were told at the bar afterwards kept us in stitches until past 0230.

- Superfly announced that he prefers them thick and creamy. 'Nuff said on that topic!  Wink

-Concordeboy was called and woken up, and harassed.

-Did I mention that Mirrodies wife is very nice, and pretty hot as well? If she ever gets tired of Mirrodie she'll have legions of admirers on A.net to choose from....  Wink ................ seriously, though...if she ever gets tired...

-Phlbos, Big Orange, RJpieces, and JFKSpotter all get a big thanks for helping to transport us all around. That made life much easier and less expensive for the entire group of 16 or 17 of us in total.

ok...I'm getting punchy here. It's 0350 and I'm gonna sack out on the bench here to get my boarding pass when Air Tran opens in a few.

We'll post photos later, and we'll need to do this again.

Great meetup and excellent people.....

Glad you guys had a great time. I almost made it to the mounds around 3:30 for some spotting but I didn't have my camera with me. Couldn't make it into the city for cocktails. I saw that Finnair turn right over us as it headed on final watching the last few holes of our Junior Championsip. The sun was perfect hope to see some great pics here!

Never a truer word. Thanks to DL021 for pulling some weight and getting himself, Mir, Superfly, and myself a table just inches from the horn section.

Now, who was that chick from Slovenia?
 Wow!  tongue

Thanks also to BigPhilNYC for hooking us up with a great table latenight.

That chick was a scientist from Serbia who now lives in NYC. Her husband was actually a nice guy and they both knew their jazz.

"Thick and Creamy" reigns supreme! If there was any doubt we were in the house, that comment really let teh reataurant know Anet was in the house.

We had a ball. Highheels, (Art's nickname for my wife) and I are in detox today, we woke up at 1300 and are just chillin the rest of the weekend.

THanks to all you guys for a great time!

And Logan, those jokes, to refresh the mind, BUCKING BRONCO and FRENCH REVOLUTION are two that spring to mind. Try them sometime! LOL

Big ups to Phil and Lucy for a great time at the bar!

Big ups to the guy that left the bar with two chicks. Beautiful.

It was great meeting you all, hope to keep in touch and do it again sometime!

Give me a few days for pics to go up!

I think everyone else already summed it up. NYC 2005 was a blast.

Sounds like I missed some insanity late night. I'm not sure I want to know what all went on.

And now, here's the official NYC 2005 Group shot from Rockaway Beach. Of course we're mssing a few people that showed up at Dinner only.

http://www.simaholic.com/phl/8-6-Group.jpg

And now, to upload more shots from 22L.

PS: Greg, thanks for posting a shot from 22L which makes me look like a complete idiot.  Smile I'm not sure why I was making that face.

Mirrodie is talking about this dude at the bar who was talking to one good looking girl, then another. The second had our full attention while we were maintaining other discussions, until I leaned over and said to M.."Dude, look, that guy is gonna close the deal and leave with those two chicks." He said that he'd been watching too, and we both watched with great interest for the next ten minutes while the hot brunette with the well filled decolletage kept moving her hand higher up the guys leg and her buddy was smiling....and then they all left together with the dude putting his arms around both girls and smiling that smile of supreme happiness

....."Big ups to the guy that left the bar with two chicks. Beautiful."

He deserved the standing ovation.....those chicks were both hot.  thumbsup

M..BTW...are you giving the camera the "shocker" in the above photo?

Ben...sorry we missed you, next time!

Wagz....You and your dad helped make this trip a blast. Ian

Guys,

I really had a great time. A few days ago I assumed that my schedule wouldn't let me makie it and I almost jsut wrote it off, thankfully I checked one more time and realized that it fit right in. I'm very glad I did.

I finally remembered several great dirtyterms, better than the "French Revolution" and the "Bucking Bronco" I mentioned.

The guy that left with those two girls was not getting laid at all. He was just friends with them and he was going to get played if those were his intentions. I guarantee it.

It was a really fun time and it was wonderful meeting everyone. Hope to do it again soon.

I wanna see more pictures!!

True, true. Too bad Bea Arthur never made an appearance.  Wink

The weekend went very well, although I have to share a bit of typical SNAFU that took place just after I landed at LGA.

Upon reaching the ground transportation exit, I checked with a member of LGA staff who recommended the shuttles into midtown. She said to just tell them I was at Terminal C. So, I used the "ground transport" telephone to dial Super Shuttle. The dispatcher said she'd have someone out to me in 20 minutes. After hanging up, and realizing that she hadn't asked which terminal I was at, I called back and she said she knew where I was because of which phone I had used. So, I just re-iterated: Terminal C at LGA. Here's what followed:

"Sir, there is no Terminal C at LGA."

I beckoned for the LGA employee. "Terminal 2," I asked, holding up two fingers?

"No. Terminal C."

"Terminal C," I replied to the dispatcher.

"Sir, there is no Terminal C at LGA."

"Look, I'm standing in Terminal C at LGA, and their staff are assuring me, quite vehemently, that this is Terminal C."

"Look up on the board, sir, and read what Terminal it's says you are in."

"It doesn't say which terminal. It says U.S. Airways Shuttle, LGA."

"That's Terminal 2, sir."

This went on and on for a bit. I hung up and waited. I asked the LGA staff member aout it and she said that only JKF uses numbered terminals, we here use the letters so there won't be any confusion between airports.

No confusion. Indeed.

Some 20 minutes later (a good 45 total), my shuttle finally shows up. I asked him what terminal he thought this was. He thought for a moment, and offered "Terminal 2, sir." I smiled. I wondered, when he was driving in and looking at the sign that said Terminal C, what prompted him to use that exit and to eventually give me this response.

I finally got a human being on Sunday going back to LGA. I explained the story to my very friendly shuttle driver, as I was the last to be dropped off (although I was still early).

"Oh my God, they are fucking idiots!" was his response.

Finally, someone who knew something. I tipped him a little bit extra.

Cheers to all who went to the NYC meet and our other hosts. I had not been back for a few years. Wonderful place.

I have no idea. But whatever it is, it's not what you're thinking.

Thanks to all who came for a great meet. My pictures will be up (Ian, I know you're waiting for that Finnair) as soon as I can recharge my battery so I can get the pictures off the camera, but that's going to mean buying a new charger, as I've lost my old one.

Spotting was great: a 345, two (count em', two) 773ERs, plenty of 763s, a 332, a 744, some 772s, and some 343s. What more could one ask for?

Dinner at DaNicos was excellent, Clark Terry was great, and the bar was fantastic. And I even made it home in under an hour from the Drake.

Can't wait for the next one.

Logan, as far as I know, everyone in NYC refers to the terminals at LGA as "Main Terminal," "USAirways Terminal" and "Delta Terminal". I've rarely heard B, C and D used, and I've NEVER heard 1,2 or 3.

It's Monday morning and I finally got a chance to log in and check the more recent posts.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I had a really good time and was glad to finally all of you.

To Mir & SHUPirate1,

Many thanks again for riding with me to the spotting areas (Mir) and to Little Italy (SHUPirate1). Having someone familiar with the area along definitely made the difference; now, I know where to go should I find myself up that way again. BTW, Mir, you left your bagels in my car. I didn't even notice this until after we got back to Northeast Philly (between 11:30 PM-12 AM).

The only real delay we encountered on the way home was when I missed the right turn off Canal Street for the Holland Tunnel; which resulted in my probably making a longer-than-normal loop to get back onto Canal to get at the tunnel entrance. Worth noting: the sign for the Holland Tunnel, at the turnoff, just read Holland Tunnel, STAY IN LANE: the latter message was in electronic (variable message form). Nowhere on that sign was there an arrow telling an unfamiliar motorist to make a right turn. Due to a building obstruction at the turnoff, one can't easily see the actual tunnel entrance while traveling westbound on Canal Street.

DL021,

I received your IM message. Many thanks again for taking the bull-by-the-horns, so to speak, and coordinating this gathering.

Mirrodie,'Mrs.' Mirrodie, BigPhilNYC, & Mike (another Philly guy),

Thanks for joining us for dinner; it was great meeting all of you.

Logan22L,

Sorry to here about your ground shuttle mishap. In most situations, I just state the airline I'm going to/coming from to a driver rather than the terminal name/number and that usually works. The exception being if the airline in question has more than one terminal at that particular airport. Is that the case w/US at LGA? BTW, it was good meeting another native New Englander on this trip.

Hey, I'm not a control freak! I didn't say you couldn't stay at the spotting locale, I just said I was leaving and anyone who wanted to make it dinner on time should come with me!

Oh, and just because your'e too cheap to take a taxi doesn't mean I'm too scared to ride subways, I've just been there and done that before unlike some of the more provincial peasants out there in the hinterlands, and not in the mood to take an hour to get anywhere. I got better things to do!

Commie pinko!

Oh, and Logan and I weren't fighting over the bill, he was doing the complex addition for me.....the next shot was me and Mirrodie discussing that we needed another $15 from you for the anisette cheesecake you did not like, because it was not THICK AND CREAMY like you like 'em!

Fly, Those were terrific shots. I'm glad you got your dose of Olympic Airbii. That was pretty cool... Aren't you glad I pointed out the Fat Black Pussycat to you? (I even like typing that name! )

Dinner was great, only Fly and I both ordered the special for dinner and it was really good, but the real highlight of the evening for me was sitting up there with Clark Terry and his crew. BTW...go here for some links to Dave Gibson and where he's been. I saw him play in Vienne 5 or 6 years ago and I spoke to him for a minute after the show while you and Logan were taking care of the bill. That show was probably one of the best jazz sets I've ever seen, and it was even better listening with friends. Thanks for the wine, Mrs. DL021 says it was a very nice thing to do, and that we'll return the favor when we head out west the next time. Look out for the package coming in a few weeks.

Ian
