Hey, I'm turning to a.net for some travel advice because I've noticed we have quite a big Scandinavian community here...

Long story short, my coworker got some positive space (confirmed ticket) passes on SAS which we are using over US Labor Day. We can go to either CPH or ARN.

Which is the better city in regards to keeping expenses low, things to do high, and nightlife? Which is the best pick for a couple of twenty somethings?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Flagship,

This is always hard, I like both Copenhagen and Stockholm. Although I have no experience clubbing in CPH, I can't imagine it being worse than in Stockholm (and I'm not saying Stockholm is bad, just that CPH is the larger of the two)
Since you're flying SAS, may I recommend a visit to this site http://www.sasguides.com/se/, you'll find some good info there.
If you choose to go to Copenhagen you are quite close to Malmö, in south Sweden, so if you want to do two countries at once, just take the train over the bridge. Malmö is a quite small town, compared to Copenhagen, but it is nice and has some good shopping opportunities.

If you go to Stockholm, and want to see Scandinavians at their worst behavior, I can recommend to take the 36 hour boat cruise from Sweden to Finland.

That will give you something to talk about  Wink There will be drink and screwing in every corner, and I can almost assure you that you will not leave "unlaid" if you don't want to...

Whatever destination you choose, I am sure you will have a ball.
Scandinavia welcomes you !

I gotta agree with TwistedWhisper here.

Both cities are wonderful. Thats for sure.
And as a swede who has lived in both Stockholm and Copenhagen I must admit that Copenhagen is better when it comes to nightlife and tourism.

But we don't have the cruise ships like the swedes though. And those trips are awesome I have heard.  Smile

But one thing is for sure. If you come to CPH I will show you around here and show you some of the best places of Copenhagen.

Have to agree with OYRJA... CPH is slightly more active when it comes to night life. But STO is not far behind...

When it comes to the beauty of the city STO takes the win (IMHO) but CPH is not ugly city either  Smile I have been living in CPH for the last 2,5 years and I do love the city... now I'm waiting to move to STO end of August Big grin I can't wait because I get rid of OYRJA (or at least I hope so)  Wink

I have to agree that the boat trip to Finland is great fun (I've done it so many times in my crazy youth) as I was living in HEL! If you have the time to do the trip it's well worth it and you get to see HEL as well - boat stays in HEL for the whole day and cruises overnight! Other option to save time would be to take the cruise oneway only and try to look some cheap flights (flyme.com or blue1.com) HEL-ARN to get back.

Even though I´m a Stockholmer I would go for CPH, the nightlife there is awesome!!

Just walking down Ströget is great IMO.

... I can't stand all the people on Strøget. Specially on Summer days (the two denmark has every year) it's just too damn crowed!

DABZF:

If you cant stand the crowd on Ströget, do what I do: go to a pub and have a Carlsberg and a GammelDansk and then to Tivoli or Istergade.......

Wonder if OYRJA is Gammel Dansk?

Yeah Solnabo... that's what I do. But I still stay away from the pubs on Strøget, part from The Dubliner sometimes... When it comes to the Carlsberg and GammelDansk I try to stay away from those too. World is full of good beer, why would you take Carlsberg if you have chance to choose something proper!?  Wink ... and GammelDansk doesn't need any explanation why I stay away from it  yuck

Actually OYRJA is a Gammel Svensk  Wink

They are both very nice towns. Just a warning that both of these places are very expensive (even with the US$ exchange rate improving) that applies especially to alcohol. I believe that ARN is a bit pricier than CPH, but neither place is cheap. Hotels however, are not too expensive. You should easily be able to find something for under US$180 a night.

A few suggestions:

(1) If the weather is good, you really must go to Nyhavn, an excellent, very busy scene.

(2) There is a restaurant that usually has excellent jazz in the Square around old St. Nikolai Church (which is just off the Stoeget). It is a bit hard to find, but worth the effort if you like Jazz and very attractive Danish women.

Surely you jest! Carlsberg is delicious. Danish Aquavit is wonderful too.

Things to do high? Then CPH is the only option, the hippie-community in the middle of town, Christania is the place to
find coffee-shops.

Hey guys, thanks for all your suggestions. Based on what everyone's been telling me, I think we're going to CPH... though one day I will have to definitely try the Stockholm-Helsinki Flooze-Cruise  Wink

That is not exactly true. They don't have official coffeshops here anymore unfortunatly after the police raided the place 6 months ago. But you can still buy some pot and stuff there. It's a great place actually.
