Was The Group Air Supply Gay?

I seen a TV ad for Napster the other day, and it got me to thinking about a decades old musical mystery.

Was the early 80's group Air Supply gay?

What got me to thinking was when the scruffy looking dude in his office cubicle was playing some song clips. A gorgeous babe walked in and he played a clip of "All Out Of Love" by Air Supply (A great song by the way), and that raised the question that had been in the back of my mind about them for as long as I could remember.

If you've ever listened to any of their music, with the one exception of "Every Woman In The World" (another good song)are totally devoid of any actual reference to being in love with a woman. Being that they were a duet, I often got the impression that they were singing their songs to each other.

And look at the artwork on this "Greatest Hits" cover. Frankly, if they were NOT gay, they sure fooled the hell out of me.

Please understand that this is NOT a thread against gay people or gay musicians. As I said, I like some of their songs. I'm simply asking a question, nothing more, nothing less. So keep your pants on, so to speak, and keep it civil.

Ok?

THIS week?

Where have you been bro? Seeing that this board is about 70% gay, the gay topics have been pretty steady ever since the classic "Adam And Steve" thread about coming out was posted back in what-2000?

I remember an article way back and an interview with them where they discussed their wives and families.

Doesn't mean squat though.

I think there is a marketing term about appealing to the whole audience. Gay, straight, bi, transgender, etc. Money is money.

Who knows if they are/were gay? Who cares if they are/were/whatever as long as you like the music they produced.

They played a concert about a month ago at a casino near Portland. I had to see them! Their songs spoke to me when I was growing up. So, as a gay man, they appeal to me. After the concerts, they were signing autographs and people were having their picture taken with fans. They were all too happy to have the ladies stand right next to them but a little more skiddish about the guys. This looked genuine. Sure, their songs may be "gay" but Graham and Russel are not.

The first concert I ever went to was an Air Supply show. Mid to late 1982, at Stetson University in Deland, Florida.

Btw, Air Supply has a website: http://www.airsupplymusic.com

They would definitely rank very high on Triumph the Insult Comic Dog's gay-meter.

Watch for about a minute and a half into this and you'll see what I mean. It's hilarious.

That is POSITIVELY my favorite Air Supply song E-V-E-R!!!! This concert I just went to, me and about 300 women rushed the stage when they sang "Making Love out of Nothing At All." When they came back for their encore, they sang "All out of love" and I was just in shock! Me, standing within 10 feet of them when they sang! Have you heard the Soluna version? Beautiful.

GO CANUCKS!!

And I don't really care and their music was good.

Best single they put out is when Jim Steinman, famous for writing the stuff for Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell" album, had them do "Makin' Love Out Of Nothing At All". Good tune.

Well now that you ask..I used to play Heavy metal and even though I had no problems with women, when I played It was like magic, then a friend of mine kept bugging me to teach him to play the Guitar so I did, and he wanted to play "pop" music so I learned some Journey songs, Heart Songs, Air Supply Songs, even darn Barry Manilow songs, because this guy wanted to play them... then in a party I played them..oh man!, I felt like the last cold beer in the desert!.

Playing those kind of songs are like "magic", and speaking of "magic" remember that super ugly guy Rick Occasek from "the Cars" he looked like a squashed monkey and he got Paulina Poriskova in the bag.....so you figure ...

best regards TRB

P.D. By the way if you want to know, the songs of Air supply that get em crazy are:

"The One That You Love"
"even the nights are better"
"every woman in the world"
"lost in Love" ---this one is easy to sing and play...

I'm nostalgic about Air supply since their music was popular when I was in high school, but I liked Ambrosia and Firefall better.

I couldn't care less if they are gay or not. They made good music. Sappy and syruppy, but I like it.

And from that era........remember America? (Horse With No Name, Sister Golden Hair Surprise) I saw a Soundstage special on PBS the other day with them. It was super!

I have a friend who went on tour with them a few times (he has the platinum records to prove it). After seeing this thread a few days ago, I asked him if Air Supply was gay. His response-NO. I asked him if they were bisexual. His response-NO. I asked him if he wants to help me breed my pet armadillos. His response-looooong pause and NO.
