Who Names Hurricanes?

The first I remember is Hurricane Gilbert about 15 years ago. Then Hurricane Hugo. Now Katrina.

Who names hurricanes and tropical storms?

The World Meteorological Organization. It is a fixed list of names that rotates every six years. So the list of names this year will be used again in 2011. However, devastating storm names like Katrina, Andrew, etc. are retired and never used again.
