This is aviation-related somehow but still not a "traditional" aircraft accident, so I post in non-av.
Sölden (Austria) - A helicopter carrying a concrete block lost its load and dropped it right on a cable car below. Many passengers have been ejected outside the cars and as many as 9 died, but the toll is expected to rise.
More info to come.
This is a very sad period, The hurricane disaster, today's 737 crash, and now this

Picture showing rescue operations, note the smashed car.

Quoting KiwiNanday (Reply 1): Except for the fact that people are dead, this is pretty funny! I mean, think of the odds of it happening!
Come on, Jake, that's insane. People from the U.S. get really spun up when our tragedies are given short shrift. Nine people, who boarded a simple cable car for a short ride, are dead because of an accident. Condolences to all the families.

Yeah, man, cool! Even more funny than the USAF plane that cut the cable in Cavalese in 1998. Gosh, I would have posted this much earlier, but I just couldn't stop laughing...

Quoting KiwiNanday (Reply 3): Yeh, its like something Gary Larson would've thought up
Don't go dragging me into this!

Seriously, there isn't an ounce of funny within a 20 mile radius of this story. What if you or someone you cared about was involved in this? Would you be thinking it was funny.

Ok guys, I'm sure KiwiNanday didn't intend to call the accident laughable. It is indeed a freak event (I'm sure he was referring to this), but still a tragic one, 6 dead are children.

Jeeez! Talk about twisting speech! I didn't say that the accident was funny, I said the situation was funny. Its dark humor people! But of course, some of you stiffs will never get it.

Your attempt of self-defense does not make it better, Kiwi.
Maybe you enlighten us stiffs by explaining
- the difference between "the accident" and "the situation",
- the funny part of it,
- the link between Gary Larson and this accident,
- the "dark humor" component of this accident.
Or you just suggest the deletion of your gaffe. Would be the best solution, if you ask me. I really don't care for PC, but yours was just too far out of bounds, as for my liking.

The accident- helicopter drops concrete block on cable car, people get thrown out of the car and die
The situation- helicopter drops concrete block on cable car, people get thrown out of the car
Just imagine what it would look like if this was some skit created for a sketch comedy show
Quoting ZakHH (Reply 10): - the link between Gary Larson and this accident,
Seems like this would be something I'd see a cartoon of in 'The Far Side'. Like when the guy who drives the scissors truck crashes through the fence of an insane asylum.

Brilliant argumentation. I give up. Thanks for showing that a high respect rating and respectability are not necessarily connected. Now go back, watch the news, have fun.
