This is absolutely mind blowing. This guy does a thorough check and is still checking this out.

What say we obtain from a reputable source....because you know many on a.net will believe this as truth.

If you're good with the program ArcView, you come up with the exact same map.

Take a look at this declaration two days later:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/08/20050829-2.html

It includes the whole state this time.

Anyway, I'm guessing he thought the coastal parishes could be taken care of by state funded emergency resources as apposed to federal?

I'm assuming the coastal parishes may have more money to handle such a situation. Maybe the more crowded areas of the state needed more to time decide on how much aid they needed.

Keep in mind, Katrina wasn't as threatening as it would eventually become when he signed the second declaration. Bashing Bush for not correctly predicting the weather seems sort of excessive to me.

[edit:] I had to edit something...

That's a very pretty map ANCFlyer but if you'll notice, yours is dated 29 August, one day after Katrina hit. The White House press release was from 26 August.

Did Bossier Parish even get rain?

I'm not disputing that LH423 . . . I just said, I can read . . . I even posted the dates . . . what's your point?

My point is, they screwed up. They went back and updated the map ANC displayed on the afternoon of Katrina's arrival after someone realized a major boo boo and realized the counties were wrong.

What went wrong because of this mix up is a whole other debate topic in and of itself.

I've had GIS (Vector & Raster), Remote Sensing, and have used many of the programs that would be used to create this map. Updating the map to make it "correct" would take a matter of 1 to 2 minutes.

Intersting how Chertoff ducked questions at yet another press conference today. . . .

You're probably correct . . . lets hope that the map was the only screwed up part . . . not the actual declaration, which I haven't been able to find thus far . . .

Additionally, who actually drafts said maps and declaration . . . I'm sure PotUS isn't sitting in the oval office with a pain by number water color set and a map of Louisiana (interstingly humorous picture that brings to ming though) . . . any bets it's another FEMA fuckup?

That myself, I don't even know. There are so many intelligence mapping agencies out there with many divisions. But, it -does- have you know who's office issuing the release....

Unless I'm mistaken the map was created FROM the press release...

"I checked the parish map against the White House's own press release, posted on their own site. I have tried to figure out how this is my own mistake, but I can't find it. And the results are frankly so bizarre I had to make the graphic in order to properly show you."

ANCFlyer: ". . . not the actual declaration, which I haven't been able to find thus far . . . "

It was in the original image AND the original link. What more did you need?! Put your glasses back on!

It's frightening. The image came from a white house release. White House = President. This is a royal fuckup.

Don't bash the president for not being able to predict the weather? You have to be some kind of moron not to have seen Hurricane Katrina coming. Not to mention, it has to make landfall on the coast before it actually comes inland. Unless it magically skips over the Louisiana coast...

Oh, so you knew the extent of this disaster before it occured? I guess you are infact a better person than any of us. Why aren't you president?

The fact is, you can't just have a knee-jerk reaction to something. You've got to figure out the explanation behind why the map is the way it is. There could be a very good explanation as to why the coastal parishes were not added at first. Don't be so quick to judge.

You're definitely out of it . . .  wink

IF in fact the show went down as demonstrated above, then it was a bad call . . . someone didn't do their job and remember that it's the southern border of Louisiana on the coast not the northern border.  confused

Continues to prove how consistently dicked up FEMA has become. You KNOW that document went through a few hundred hands before getting shoveled over to PotUS for "signature". No excuse for giving the boss bad poop. Period.

Sorry to disappoint you my friend. . .  crazy  cry

Uhhhh, yes? I think that it was pretty obvious, from the NWS warnings of how dire this situation would be. So yes, I did know what the extent of the disaster would be. Did I say that makes me a better person?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that a hurricane when it makes landfall, has to hit the coast first. How would a hurricane hit counties inland first? How would it miss coastal towns?

Why is it knee jerk to declare the entire state an emergency area? The NHC had predicted the storm was going to hit the area, they were off by ten miles. The website I posted has been looking hard for an explanation as to why the coastal parishes were not added at first, they haven't been able to come up with one yet. They've tried many different approaches.

How in the world can you defend the president on this issue? Everybody knew where the storm was going to hit. Why didn't he make those coastal parishes disaster areas?

BECAUSE NOTHING HAD HAPPENED YET? Could you please explain to me exactly how one declares anything a disaster area before something has happened. And lets pretend he did....what would that have changed exactly?

Would that have prompted Mayor Nagin to ensure that there was proper amounts of food and water and security at the Super Dome? Would that have prompted Governor Blanco to order Mayor Nagin to enforce the mandatory evacuation?

Grow up...there are FAR bigger questions to be answered first....THEN we can wonder why POTUS is a shitty weatherman.

How long have they been trying? I read the news a lot and I haven't yet seen the liberal media pick this one up.

If this is in fact a mistake, we've got absolute, irrefutible proof that the president is infact an imbecile...along with 51% of the nation.

CNN and MSNBC don't care, and the nut-job webmaster who's going ape-sh_t over this whole situation can't get anyone to return his phone calls...

Doesn't that come off as a little strange to you? I find it odd.
