Yes...it's that time of year, and since we did this every week last year, I feel its incumbent upon me to start this thing again.

We'll post this thread every week and I'll change the dates so we can argue or talk smack each week. I'll also add a paragraph for our A/net fantasy league as an update for bragging rights.

Post whatever you want about your team and how they did and will do the next week. This thread will go up after the first game of the week every week for everyones enjoyment.

Please.....it's football...American football. Keep politics and other crap off of here and remember that this is about a little distraction and enjoyment each week.

I'll start by saying that the Pats seem to handle the Raiders pretty well, even though Brady said that he was not happy with the quality of play. I don't think they've slowed too badly though.

The Falcons have a pretty big test coming up. I'm happy that we had a good preseason, but that won't buy a cup of coffee in regular season. I really would like to knock off the Eagles. It's been a couple of years since we've done that and they've been the ones to knock us out of the playoffs the last two or three times. I think we owe 'em a good whoopin.

A few years ago my brother said it best about his favorite team: Boston is Patriots country and Sunday is Jihad!

As for me, I'm a Giants fan. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the season and ordered the DirecTV NFL package a couple of days ago.

Would love to see the Falcons beat the Eagles and am looking forward to the following games on Sunday:

Tennessee v. Pittsburgh
NY Jets v. Kansas City
Dallas v. San Diego
Arizona v. NY Giants
Indianapolis v. Baltimore

It's funny, a pretty girl I know wants to get together for a drink this weekend and asked if I was available. Told her, "I'm around except for Sunday. Unless you want to come over to drink beer and watch football." I guess that's not her thing because she suggested we get together on Saturday. Big grin

Jeff, how's Eli looking for the season? I ended up with him as my FF qb because Kroc arranged the draft to screw me.

You reckon he's looking healthy to start?

Lfutia....dude, you gotta pick one.

Yeah, but which team do you back to the point that your two favorites are the Bears and whoever plays the rest of the central division?

Dallas v. San Diego

San Diego should triumph in this game, despite the absense of Antonio Gates... The Chargers, though most analysts say are hard-pressed to repeat the 14-4 season, are predicted to top the AFC West again, and I look forward to the ride!

LT is healthy, Brees will start again this year (like the team, he will be hard-pressed to repeat his stellar season last year, but he is still expected to do very well), and the Chargers made good draft choices.

I have good hopes for them this year, and despite the lesson I've learned being a Chargers fan (never be too optimistic), I think they will once again make the playoffs and hopefully, go further than the first round...

Signed,
A true Chargers fan, san747

It looks like he's a go for Sunday. Will be interesting to see him start against Kurt Warner when they play Arizona.

As for this coming season, judging on how he improved at the end of last season, I'm cautiously optimistic. However, it's the offensive line I'm really worried about and not Eli's playing ability. One very bright spot is Tiki Barber's running game which, hopefully, will take some pressure off of Eli and allow the team to chew up the clock.

OK...I'll leave him starting since Kroc cheated at the draft to leave me with the SFO backup QB.

I hope Manning does well, but he'll need protection. I don't know that he's the most mobile of guys....he's accurate as hell though.

Agreed. The Chargers are an exciting team to watch and I'm a fan of Marty Schottenheimer. Also, I'll root for any team that plays against Dallas. The enemy of my enemy is my friend!

Yeah, it's the protection that I'm worried about. The offensive line has been one of the glaring weak spots in the Giants' lineup in the last few years.

I don't know about 'in control' the whole way, but that's what makes them one of the most exciting teams to watch.

One of my favorite seasons ever in pro football was 2003 because the Pats played in many incredibly tight games and came back in some extreme situations. That's why the DirecTV NFL package is so great, you can follow teams from afar in your own living room and see some increadible football games. I have a lot of respect for Bill Belichick and his style of management & coaching.

Funny thing is, for most of the last four years (excepting the 2002 season), there was this tacit understanding, when watching the Patriots, that they would just find a way to win. There was very little stress. Amazing, because...

Yes indeed. I've watched or listened to every Pats game since the 1970 season. Back then, we didn't sell out, so home games were on WBZ radio. The Patriots SUCKED from 1970-1975, 1980-1983, 1988-1993... you get the picture. Getting beat by the Bears in 1986 hurt, but I'd guess that no team could have beat the Bears in that Super Bowl. So now, we're on top, as you in SF can relate to. Been a long time.

Well my Niners may not be much this year. Certianly not the team of the 80s-90s. There were some improvments though in the preseason. Look for an improved Defence, perhaps Mike Nolan can win 4 games for us....small steps...I don't think they will be able to take St. Louis but I think they will make a good game out of it.

There was a lot of stress for me! What I think made the 2003 season so exciting was that there wasn't a tacit understanding that they'd win. In 2001 they had a decent record (11-5) and went on to win the Super Bowl (which was a great game). In 2002 they slid back into just above average territory (9-7) and in 2003 they won some very close games after two losses at the beginning of the season. It was an impressive season but by no means in-the-bag and there were some real nail biters, e.g., the Monday Night Football game against Denver.

Quoting Logan22L (Reply 22):

The possible exception being Miami.

Regardless, even though I'm a Giants fan, I'm happy to see the Pats win because they're very entertaining to watch but not flashy and I respect their players, coaches and organization.
