A new feminist party in Sweden will run for the 2006 election. One of the things they talk about is that a man should have the possibility to have a female name and a woman a male name. What do you think? Big grin

I feel a certain ease, learning that Germany is not the only country in the world coming up with such stupid ideas...  Wink

They also want marriage to be illegal. I will move from Sweden if this party makes it to the riksdag.

No, it should be illegal. It is in Czechia, by the way. I am a liberal nonconformist, so understand this has nothing to do with conformity. It's recognizing that there are men and there are women, and not dooming your kid to a lifetime of embarassment, confusion, probable mockery at school at least, and possibly a gender identity crisis.

Names that were for example once boys' names but are now girls' names (Eg. Ashley, Beverly, Lindsay, Leslie) should be perfectly legal, BUT they should STAY legal only for girls. To avoid further confusion, I would not allow this to evolve any further.

As I have written before, I think there should be strict laws regulating giving children names. This is a very important decision as it affects you for the rest of your life. I should know. My real name is unpronouncable in English (not that I blame my parents, having been born in Serbia where it is a perfectly acceptable name). Suffice to say that this has contributed to the misery I have suffered growing up.

Did EddieGunsmoke say gay marriage? Nope, it's the regular kind that they want to outlaw...

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

Many Englishspeaking people consider my first name Jan to be a girl's name, but actually it is a version of John used all along the North Sea and Baltic coast from Belgium and the Netherlands through northern Germany, Scandinavia to Poland, the Baltic States and the Czech Republic.

I wonder why.  bouncy

I've always said that it doesn't matter WHAT you call me...It's how you say it.

As for laws about what to name your kids .... I didn't know there we're such laws. I could name my kid "CaptainGomes AA61Hvy the third" if I wanted to. (I'd just PRAY the other kids didn't call him Molly!).  stirthepot

Some professors when I was college, didn't even say my name right. They would be like Danielle... of course I had to correct them and tell them its Daniel.

Back to the topic, the whole marriage thing to be illegal.. . This is stupid and I think the members of this party are smoking something.
