My Dumb Dog!

So, whenever the weather here gets a little odd, by dog gets really anxious (usually this is around 3 in the morning), as a result he paces and pants. For the last 5 years, I first let him out to do his business, then lock him in the laundry room (which is really our back service hall, so no cruelty here).

Well, the dumb dog, figured out how to open the door!

At first it was easy to understand, as we had a lever type door knob. So we changed that to an "egg" shaped knob! Last night, he figured out how to open that!

So can someone tell me, how my 13 year old mutt can figure this out on his own!

The title of your post seems inappropriate as your dog seems rather smart.  Wink Maybe the door wasn't fully closed?

No, no the door was not only closed, but I put a hamper in front of it to block him....which he moved away!

If it didn't piss me off, I would think it's funny, but as soon as he gets out, he comes up the stairs and keeps me up all night!

Maybe the boogyman opened the door, or Jason aka friday 13th guy did and is now currently waiting in your wardbrobe for tonite.

Dogs are very smart animals they can do some amazing things, try feeding him at a different time and put an old blanket on the floor for him he may adjust to this.

Sorry, I toss one of his beds in there with him, so he has a place to sleep.

I don't thing changing his feeding schedule would do much, as this is not a daily occurrence.

There is no lock on the door, he is just turning the doorknob! That is the mystery...how he could figure that one out!
