One of my two managers annoys me greatly: she always criticises and never praises and there's an atmosphere around her which is not conjucive to motivating staff and being friendly, happy and productive. Her husband, another manager, is somewhat similar, although he's more abrubt - even to customers. And then there's the bloke who's one above me: he changes from being happy to downright moody quicker than I can blow my nose. He's annoying too and must always be the centre of attention. He likes to take the mick out of people but doesn't like it when others (i.e. me) does it to him. Fool. Do you like your managers?

Quoting Cornish (Reply 1): Could it possibly be that YOU might be the problem
Me? Pah! I'm always happy and friendly. Actually, perhaps you're right - perhaps I need to be able to change from happy to moody very quickly, deliver bad customer helping, and so on.

I could not agree with you more.
My boss is an inept moron. I don't know how he got promoted. I have a few theories but they would definately be found offensive by most.
It's pretty bad when I have to take care of most things and answer his questions. It's even worse when his boss knows it and doesn't do anything.

Exactly. Enough of this happy eager to please, young, new in the job, work ethic. Give it another year there, you'll soon learn

He got promoted BECAUSE he is an inept moron. If he was any good at his job, they'd have kept him doing his job. As he was useless they promoted him to be a manager where he wouldn't have to do any of the real important work

What industry are you in?
In my limited real world working experience I have found that managers (or whatever other title you want to give them) can vary wildly. During a brief stint in the world of retail sales while in grad school some of my managers just made me go "whaaaaaa?"
I had one manager, that no matter how reasonable a request, you ALWAYS walked away from him thinking that he was the biggest arsehole in the world.
I had another that was always buddy-buddy with me. Always thanked me for "helping out" that day, as if I was there just for altruistic reasons and not the paycheck.
There was another that was a chronic complainer and didn't do shit all day. Actually there were quite a few that did very little.
And as is the case in retail, there was a steady stream of low-level managers in and out of that place. On occassion we'd get one that assumed everyone was a complete idiot and didn't know what they were doing. Despite the fact that most of us were pretty good at our jobs and had more in-store experience than the manager.
But I am saddened to say that it really doesn't improve. You get the same mix of good, bad, and so-so supervisors in higher level jobs.

I hear that our dear Skidmarks will, after marrying JPG, become an Avon lady - and he'll wear a skirt and make-up, too.
You go to the same clubs as I do then?
That'll be the one JGP does his drag act at then ??

Too bad you couldn't fine some dirt on them, like kinky sexual beheavor on or off the job or finding out they are lying about their budgets, or work being done or stealing from the company. A little extortion can go a long way. You may not have to do anything. If they are a bad enough boss, they will piss off the wrong person at work or a key customer someday and their butts will be kicked into the streets - God works in mysterous ways.

Yes James you mentioned that there were a husband and wife bosses and a guy above them. Now catch the woman with the big boss, or better still the husband with the big boss, and things should get much better for you
