Where are all you Sydneysiders I thought you would have posted this by now.

Sydney has defied the weight of 72 years of history, logic, a better-credentialled opposition and the critics to win an historic AFL premiership.

The Sydney Swans fought back from a 10-point deficit early in the last quarter to beat West Coast Eagles.

Final score:
Sydney Swans 8.10 (58) to West Coast Eagles 7.12 (54)

It was a low scoring final with the result hanging in the balance until the final mark.

Great match one of the closest games in history.

The Sydney SWANS? What sport do they play, competitive ballet dancing?

Ever seen an angry swan, Cfalk? LOL. The Swans captain is a one-man demolition machine. They won because they were probably the toughest (mentally and physically) team in the competition this year. Anyone who saw the game on cable TV would know its not for the faint-hearted. Good to see a non-Victorian team win, even though one of my two home-State teams was on the losing side. Its very big deal in Australia - and pre-game entertainment included Michael Buble, Dame Edna Everage and Delta Goodrem...strange mixture, but lots of atmosphere.
Cheers
Bill

savour it Swanettes..it might take you another 72 years to get this far! gotta love the blatant free kick that was missed when Barry took the last mark of the match, clearly Judd and Kerr were held in the marking contest and had no chance of getting to the ball! as for the soft Dean Cox free kick, another poor umpiring decision! we had our chances but didn't quite finish them, we'll be better for it in 12 months time!

Indicative of the level of interest in this fine city for AFL. Sure, there is some level of excitement now - but on the whole it's a Melbournian thing. Most of us simply don't care.

I still don't know what sport you all are talking about. Peeing for distance? (That would be scary if a woman won). What are y'all talking about?

I still think the Swans is a faggy name. Conjures up images of men in tights dancing around in a tutu.

Typing in the letters AFL (featured in the title) into google would have given you firstly a link to a stock index, and secondly to the Australian Football league. Take your pick - it's not that hard to work out. No need to be vulgar either.

Or perhaps that most Sydneysiders are celebrating the win. I don't even follow AFL and I celebrated. I havent had Baileys in ages and last night, I had a whole bottle. Yum.

Go the Swannies.

Observe that this followed that which you quoted:

Let's hope we don't wait another 72 years to win another one ...
