Tequila.

Seriously.. Drink enough of it and you either stop coughing, or just don't give a shit anymore.

My mother swears by a cough syrup called Gee's Linctus. It contains a very small amount of opiates so in NZ you have to ask the pharmacist at the counter for some.

2. Hot chicken noodle soup
3. Rest

Nasal spray. I heard it coats the virus and stops it from spreading.

I have been drinking fluids and resting (kinda) but I've had it for 2 weeks now and the only way I can keep from having coughing fits is to not talk. But I can't do that in class and I can't claim it is worse for me and take a day off. I rarely get sick, but when I do, its a damn freakin nightmare!  Sad

What about things I should not eat, I've noticed worse reactions to cold things like ice cream or water.

Definitely go to the doctor. I have the same thing now. In fact, I get it every year when the weather begins to change. I have, and it sounds like you do, too, bronchitis. I get it like clockwork. I run in to my doc, and he writes a prescription for a Zithromax Z-pack. It clears me up in a couple of days, then I am fine until next year. Talk to him about that. The main thing is that you don't want it to develope into pneumonia.

Regarding blowjobs, that only works for the ladies  yes

Warm tea with honey and lemon is what my hubby swears by when he gets these coughs.

Anything cold and salty will aggrevate it but I agree BaylorAirBear. If you still have it then go to the doctors and sort it out.

Mono? You'd replace a viral infection that may last a month with one that can last up to two years with treatment?

before you (try to) go to sleep. And try to lie in bed on your stomach. That helps to reduce coughing.

Is it a dry cough or one full of gunk from you're lungs cos the first one is treatable by a heap of methods and the other generally requires some kind of medicine to dry up the muck in your lungs.

thanks for the help folks. So far it has been a dry cough swell, so to speak (I'm hoping it is the last phase of hell I have to go through). I get really exhausted each day just trying to supress the coughing fits in class to keep from looking like I'm about to croak. I have an appointment with a doctor tomorrow morning, for now just to talk with him/her about my problem. I suppose it isn't normal for antibiotics to not work.

You can do two things...

Drink PLENTY of non caffine/alcoholic/carbinated beverages.

These tend to "DRY" you out, but don't flush anything.

Thus.. Option one, drink LOTS of water or juice. This will "flush" the cold out. This will "flush" the cold out thru natural release, lots of trips to the toliet.

-OR-

My preference,

Drink lots of alcohol, and sweat it out. Yes, get trashed. But do it by drinking shots, dark alcohol works best.
Either way, the only way to "end" the common cold is to "flush" it out. You can't kill the virus, just get it out.

You can alway run a few miles, and get the same result, but most of the time, you don't feel like running 5 or so miles.

Absolutely spot-on mate but i would add that to actually cure the cold, one should then go to bed fully clothed...which is what will happen anyway if you drink enough!!
