Damn popular! Even in Germany.. they used to play Mundian to Bache ke rahe at tradityional German Beer festivals  bigthumbsup  -

In the UK, it has almost entered Mainstream, same in the US.

There is a lot of good Indian stuff produced "aboad" by Indians.. the entire Bobby Friction BBC1 show, along with fantastic desi vibes.. and many, many more pieces of good art. Lots of Indian vibes partys (with hot chicks Big grin ) even in Germany.. just went to one in FRA here.. lots of bollywood shows

Nothing in the US.
My company has a visitor from Pune and I took her to the GNV airshow and 'exposed' her to American music during the ride. She didn't know ANY of it.. took reaching back to 'Men at work' to get something she knew.

It depends on where you go in the US. The more cosmopolitan areas have been exposed to Indian music and culture much more. Punjabi stuff has definitely dominated and a little bit of Hindi as well.

I had an interesting experience with Indian music once. I was on a flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Bombay, India. I was flying Air India and the aircraft got changed to an old L1011 (this was a few years ago) from a B744.

The entire flight, they played Indian movies with Indian music which was quite entertaining. The interesting part is that because of the old aircraft (I suspect this is the reason), there were no headsets. Yes - they played the music over the loud speakers all the way to Bombay. I think it is a 9 or 11 hour flight.

That was a great introduction to Indian culture!!

Cheers!

I have Bally Sagoo, Malkit Singh, Asha Bhosle and other Hindi/Bhangra artists on various CD's and tapes.

Whenever 707cmf is around I make sure I play this type of music as it aggrhaavates him profusely  Silly
