Singer Boy George Arrested on Drug Charge 9 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Boy George was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs and making a fake police report after calling 911 early Friday, police said.

The British singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, claimed his home had been burglarized around 3 a.m. Friday, said Detective Kevin Czartoryski, a police spokesman.

Officers arrived at O'Dowd's Manhattan apartment and discovered a small amount of cocaine next to a computer, police said. Police were continuing to investigate.

That photo is him in "costume" when he did a portrayal of Lee Bowery (sp?).

Lee Bowery was George O'Dowd's persona inspiration. Bowery was heavy on the underworld scene of British music, fashion, drugs, nightclub, clubs, entertainment in the early 80's. Despite having many enemies, most of his enemies were his friends. Bowery had a huge following.

O'Dowd portrayed Lee Bowery and gave great tribute to his life and influence in the musical "Taboo."

Probably yes, all to promote Taboo.

Taboo opened in New York in the fall of 2003, but before that, had been playing in London for several years and still is playing over there, I believe.

Despite it's ill-timing on Broadway (definitely wrong time given that year's fierce competition), O'Dowd still remains attached to plans to revamp the show off Broadway and/or give it some life in regional theater markets (Chicago, L.A., San Francisco), across the country. It's found success playing throughout Europe.

So did David Hasselhoff! I don't follow Broadway at all but I seem to recall hearing that it lost a ton of money and got terrible reviews.
