The movie "American Beauty" is one of the best current US movies! My opinion.
I thought it was directed by Robert Altman, but it isn't.
Speaking of Robert Altman:
who else here thinks he is simply a genius?

Robert Altman's most popular movie is M*A*S*H. I've seen a couple others like Nashville (good song by Keith Caradine titled, "I'm Easy), and Chicago, Chicago. He also directed a segment in Aria.

His most recent movie that I've seen was The Player (1992). It's a black comedy about the ins and outs of producing movies in Hollywood.

I think the quality of his films vary, Pret-a-Porter anyone?
My favourite is still his 1974 film 'California Split'.

One more thing...

In an interview, he said that if there's female nudity in his movies he often reciprocates by also showing nude male(s).
